“What I need is for you to feed any and all of our guys. I would rather none of you go home right now. I was targeted at my house. Who knows if any of the rest of you might be.” I hesitate. “Or do you think they’ll come after the restaurant?”

“I would like to see them try,” Greg says.

“Most of your customers are Earthlings,” I remind him.

“They won’t come after us, not there,” Greg says. “If they do, I can handle them and make it look like an accident?”

I lift my eyebrows.

“Poison,” Greg clarifies. “It’ll look like a heart attack. Completely harmless. Even if Earthlings do an autopsy, they won’ see the poison since it’s not something that would kill an Earthling.”

I shake my head. “And if they don’t come to your place to eat but to shoot it up?”

“It won’t come to that.”

“We’re at war now, even though we tried not to let that happen,” I remind him. “Your optimism—”

“You just worry about the rest of us. I can handle my restaurant and whoever comes to it, good or bad or neutral.”

I nod slowly.

“And you worry about that woman of yours,” he continues. “I like her.”

I grunt. Teri’s hardly mine, even though she’s consuming all of my thoughts outside of the war between my club and the Rebel Brothers.

Greg fist-bumps me and heads on out as my phone rings.

Earlier, Elden texted to let me know that a cop had been to Teri’s and that she had left. I told him to sit tight in case someone comes to lie in wait for her return, but it’s Hal who is calling.

That’s bad. They’re supposed to text me updates.

“What is it?” I growl.

“Adan, Nigel, and Jamey are here,” he says.

I hang up and rush over to my bike. Yes, I went back to my place to get it, but I haven’t been inside my place. For all I know, they broke all of my windows or even went inside and trashed the place. Hell, they could’ve burned it down for all I know.

I’ve been running from the police and their questions, and if that cop from earlier is on the case, Teri might be watched by both my guys and the cops. Actually, that might not be a bad thing… except it means more Earthlings will be in harm’s way, and I don’t know if I can protect them all.

None of the Earthlings should be involved in this. They’re all innocent.

I break the speed limit and ignore stop signs on my ride over. Thankfully, no cops notice, and I screech my tires as I pull up to a stop, my car braking so close to Adan that I nearly park on his foot.

“What the fuck?” Adan snaps.

I smirk at him. “Adan, go crawling back to Joey. Go lick the bottom of his bottom like you always do.”

“You’re going to eat those words,” Nigel says.

“How about you eat my boot?” Adan snaps.

“There’s no need for any of this here,” Teri snaps.

I do my best not to look at her, only I can’t help myself. She looks furious, standing there with her hands on her hips, but fuck it all if that isn’t one hot look for her. Cheeks flushed, eyes wild… She looks ready to fight someone, and I am so here for that.

Although she shouldn’t have to fight anyone or anything.

I’ll do the fighting for her. I got her mixed up in all of this, and I’ll save her.
