Lucifer shrugged. “Just wait until I’m done with Crush first, then you can give it your best shot.”

Axle bit out a curse and wrapped his arms around Bullet, then he dragged Bullet out of the room.

“If you think Axle will always save you,” Crush began, “then you’re dumber than I thought you were.”

“I’m not scared of your brother, Sugartits.”

Crush chuckled. “But you should be.” Then she walked over to the table Pinky was at and helped her clean up the beer.

Crush

When the evening began to wind down andJaredMcCarthybegan giving hints about wanting to go home with her, Crush was irritated. It didn’t bother her he wanted to spend the night or that he wanted to fuck. Normally, she’d be all over it. He was exactly what she didn’t want in a man, so it would be easy to fuck him and kick him out. No, it wasn’t that he was a douchebag who was masquerading as a decent guy. It was that every time she thought about fucking, the guy in bed with her was Lucifer.

The last thing she wanted to do was bring Jared back to her place, get naked, and start fucking, only to have to fight her brain when it attempted to switch out Jared for Lucifer. If that was what was going to happen, she might as well go home alone and dip into her treasure chest for assistance.

Taking Lucifer home wasn’t an option. He was too…Lucifer. She was afraid it would take one orgasm for him to demolish the carefully constructed walls she had built around herself.

Axle had been the last straw, but he wasn’t the reason for her walls. The walls were up to protect herself from the bullshitbut you’re a girlcomments she had heard all of her life. She used to let the walls down with men she was dating, but twice, men had demanded shesoften upandsubmitto them as soon as feelings had gotten involved. She was who she was, and she wouldn’t be changing for anyone. Instead of dropping her walls, after that, she strengthened them, fortified them, turned them into brick-encased steel.

For a brief moment, she thought she could drop them with Axle, but he had met Gorgeous and put an end to all of that. That was the day she decided she’d just be alone. She didn’t need a man and wasn’t even sure she wanted one for the long haul. Crush had been happy with her life since then.

Then Lucifer barreled into her life and shook shit up. Now she couldn’t even get herself off without him being on her brain. That shit was not okay. Hell, he’d replaced The Rock as the cover of her mental spankbank, and her self-control in those moments was non-existent. She automatically pictured him when she touched herself. It was unfair, really. How was a girl supposed to keep her head on straight when a rough, pretty biker was constantly trying to get in her pants?

“So, what do you say?”

Crush’s body jolted at the sound of Jared’s voice. She turned her head and looked at him again. He was a very nice-looking man. She would even call him handsome. He would work just fine for a one-night stand, but it wasn’t going to happen. It wasn’t right to fuck him and think about Lucifer.

“I’m not feeling it tonight,” she said and walked away.

As she passed Lucifer on her way toward the front door, she flipped him the bird and rolled her eyes when he chuckled.

Fucking Lucifer.

CHAPTER SIX

Three months later… Lucifer

AsLuciferenteredtheclubhouse, he wasn’t sure how Axle would take his offer. Either Axle would be on board and all for it, or he would take Lucifer’s life for even suggesting it. Either way, he was ready for whatever response he got.

He was done with waiting around for the Howlers to deem him trustworthy. Without having much opportunity to prove it, he was stuck in this never-ending loop of to trust or not to trust, and he was fucking over it.

About a week ago, Lucifer decided he needed to figure out a way to turn things around. After learning what he could about the Howlers, he determined that the best way to earn their trust was to stand up for the things they believed in and show them he believed in them, too. And he believed in keeping drugs out of kids’ hands and protecting the unprotected.

It was the type of mission he could put his all into. Something he could be proud of. If that meant he was finally accepted by the Howlers and the Claws, that was even better.

At first, he wondered how he could get it across to them he was an asset to them, then it hit him. He had connections. Growing up the way he did and living the adult life that he lived, he knew people. He knew people fighting for the side of good, but he also knew people who were perpetuating the bad. If he used those connections to further the mission of the Howlers, he hoped it would go a long way to proving his usefulness and deem him trustworthy.

Lucifer knocked on Axle’s office door and took a deep breath to prepare himself for whatever came out of the meeting.

After a moment, the door opened a few inches, and Pike was looking out at him. “Yeah?”

“I need to talk to Axle.”

“About?”

Lucifer rolled his eyes. Sometimes, it was a pain in the ass dealing with the Howlers. Axle was one of the biggest men in the club, but the members, especially Pike and Dragon, acted like he was incapable of protecting himself.

“I need to talk to Axle… not one of his minions.”
