Page 16 of I've Got You

A minute later and the tiny blond is walking out of the building, her eyes blinking in the bright light. They widen when she can see right and she walks right up to us.

“You?” She says. “I thought they killed you. They said they did.”

“Gonna take more than that to kill me,” I laugh.

Judd shoots me a harsh look.

“Too soon?” I say.

“Yes,” he grunts.

“I can’t thank you enough for this. I was sure that I was never going to be found. Anything you want and I’m sure my father will be willing to pay it.”

I shake my head. “I didn’t do this for money. I’m chasing a story and I wanted to break up this cell.”

“I get it. Well, if you want an insider look at what was happening, I’d be happy to talk to you. Tomorrow though. I’m sure my dad is going nuts.”

I smile at her and pat her arm. “That would be lovely. Thank you.” I hand her my card.

The officer says something to her and she groans. “I have a detective waiting to interview me. I’ve got to go. But thank you so much for helping find me.”

“That’s okay. I just hope if I was in the same situation someone would come looking for me.”

They both step away and Judd wraps his arms around me. He leans down, resting his head on my forehead. “Me. I would move hell and heaven to find you, baby girl. There is nowhere in this world that I wouldn’t track you down.”

I smile up at him. “You know. The first part of that sounded really sweet and then you got a little creepy.”

“Think what you like. But that was a promise. There’s nowhere to run, nowhere to hide. You are mine. Forever and ever.”

“I love you, Judd. I know it seems crazy but I’ve never met someone like you. Someone so sweet and caring and yet hot as hell. You make me want to curl up with you and watch my favorite shows and then again, you make me want to wind myself around you all night long until I can’t walk the next day. It’s a strange feeling.”

“Tell me about it,” he laughs. “I love you too, baby girl. As soon as we get out of here, I’m gonna fuck you so hard that you won’t be able to walk for at least three days. Hopefully if I keep doing that, it will keep you out of trouble for a little bit.”

I shoot him a sweet smile. “One can only hope, Judd.”

He growls and lifts me off my feet, twirling me around until my head spins and I can’t stop laughing.

Then his lips land on mine and it’s like heaven opens up, blinding me with the beauty that is him. My body catches fire and I groan into his mouth.

He lifts his head. “Let’s go home, baby girl. I’m never letting you out of my sight. You’re a menace but you’re my menace.”

He takes my hand and drags me along behind him and I let him. I know I’ve pushed his buttons today. And I know it’s too soon for how we both feel. But I also know that there’s nothing in the world that I need more than him.

Our future is ever-widening in front of us and I’m breathless, hoping and waiting to see what it brings.

He smiles back at me and the golden glow in his eyes warms me in places that have felt cold and closed-off for years.

That smile says home to me. Home and love. Happy ever after to me.

JUDD

We barely make it in the door before I’m throwing her over my shoulder and swatting her round ass.

“I swear if you ever do anything like that again, I’m gonna spank you until your ass is red. You took at least ten years off my life, woman.”

She groans when my hand caresses her ass and I grin.

“I think you like your punishment, baby girl.”
