“Um, I got the shop closed up after taking care of everyone. I just got done there. On my way here, I was followed by someone. They were driving a blacked out SUV. I made turns I didn’t have to take just to make sure they were following me. And to try and lose them. It didn’t work. When I turned in here, they pulled over just down the road,” I tell the guys as Talon swears under his breath. “I just wanted to see how things were going here.”

“No news yet,” Bronwan says, a smile on her face as usual. “I’m expecting Sab or Zeus to be out shortly to update us on what’s going on.”

“Why don’t you take a seat? You’ve been on your feet all day long,” Judge suggests, pointing at the closest seat to us.

“That’s okay. I’m going to head out. Brent needs to have a bath and I’ve gotta get him down for bed. If Jae or anyone needs something let me know and I’ll bring it by immediately,” I tell everyone before turning around to leave.

No one tries to stop me or anything as I head for the elevator. The feeling of being watched fills me though. When I enter the elevator and turn to press the button for the first floor, I’m not surprised to have three sets of eyes on me. Talon looks pissed off, Bronwan has a sad smile on her face as she gives me a small wave, and Judge just looks confused as hell. As the doors close and I’m taken down to the first floor, I hope the SUV has driven off. If I can just get back to the compound and lock Brent and me in the apartment, I’ll feel a lot better.

Chapter Four

WE’RE HEADING BACK from the run we just made for Sal. It was a last minute thing and we knew we couldn’t have Zeus or Sabotage on this one. So, it made it easier for Lash and I to be the ones to go. While our President would love to be there for the possible birth of his niece and nephews, he knew he couldn’t pull those two away. They wouldn’t be any good on the run knowing at any second their woman could go into labor. Plus, now, I’m glad to get the fuck away from Braedon and Kelsey while knowing what we just found out. I haven’t told a single person about it and at this point, I’m not sure if she’s told anyone either. That’s something I’ll figure out when I get back to town.

Lash and I have been rushing as much as possible to get back so he doesn’t miss too much time with his new family members. While I keep telling myself I don’t want to get back to see Kelsey and make sure she’s okay, that’s a fucking lie. The need to know whether or not she’s getting sick is there along with wondering if she’s made any decisions about what to do, and needing to know if she’s made her next appointment. I’ve also been lying to myself about saying I haven’t been thinking about her every fucking second of the time I’ve been gone. Kelsey fills my mind no matter what I do or how hard I try to push her out of my head. When I try to stop thinking of her, it only seems to get worse.

The guys with us understand Lash’s need to get home, but they have no clue I’m also in a rush. I’m close to Sabotage and want to be there for a guy I’ve grown up in the club with. I’d say he’s my best friend, but I don’t let anyone get that close to me. Judge and Talon are only close because they’re my blood brothers. Lash, Sabotage, and Boxer were with us growing up, but they don’t know everything from my past. That’s how I fucking like things too. If people aren’t fucking close to me, I can’t paint a target on their backs from enemies of the club. Not to mention, they can’t hurt me in any way. They can’t try to force shit on me and make me feel things I don’t want to feel. Love is nothing more than bullshit if you ask me.

That’s not to say I don’t have love for my club and the men and women of the Knight’s Rebellion. I do. However, for me personally, love is nothing more than bullshit and has no room in my life. That’s when you start making mistakes and getting fucking careless. I’ve seen it happen too many times with other men to believe anything else. There are times the women are the ones who lose their mind and quit focusing on things that used to matter to them. That’s not anything I ever want to be a part of. Not if it means losing myself or giving a fuck about what happens to someone other than the men I call my brothers and their ol’ ladies.

My grandpa has survived years without my grandma. I watched that strong as fuck man become nothing more than a shell of his former self when we lost her. He went from fun loving and happy to the asshole everyone in town knows him as today. Pops still has love to give, but he’s closed himself off from everyone who’s not blood or hasn’t been around in his life before he lost our grandma. Lash and his brothers are among the few my Pops will listen to. It’s honestly a miracle because he can’t stand listening to anyone. Not unless he’s fucking with them and making them feel like the biggest piece of shit he’s ever met in his life.

Pops is the one person I can talk to about this situation with Kelsey and learning I’m going to be a father. He gets why I don’t want to have a family of my own. My brothers do too. They truly know what I’ve been through and why this is the last thing I need in my life. I’m not that guy to settle down and play happy family man. I didn’t believe my brother was either. Talon definitely surprised me when he went after Bronwan and made her his. I love it for him, but that’s just not something I’ll ever do. That’s why this situation is so fucking hard. I’m not about to make Kelsey’s mind up for her regarding the baby she carries. However, she has to know I’m not going to be a part of his or her life for any reason. Well, other than financially. I’ll support any child I have, but that’s as far as I can take it.

“Death, get your head outta your fuckin’ ass,” Lash’s voice comes across the Bluetooth we’ve got in our helmets to connect to one another.

“What’s up?” I return, not sure if I was doing anything wrong or not.

“Can tell you’re lost in your head. What the fuck is goin’ on with you?”

“Nothin’. Let’s just get the fuck home,” I say before I’m interrupted by the ringtone going off through the helmet I’m wearing. “What?”

“Death, what the fuck is up your ass?” Sabotage says, his voice with a hard edge to it I don’t usually hear from him.

“Nothin’. What’s goin’ on?” I return, trying to push down the temper these two fucking brothers have brought forward by asking what’s wrong with me.

“A lot’s fuckin’ goin’ on. Jaelyn went into labor durin’ the fuckin’ grand openin’ of Rebellious Sweets and Caterin’. We rushed the fuck outta there with her and every-fuckin’-one followed us to the hospital. Not a single fuckin’ person stayed with Kelsey at the shop,” Sabotage says, his voice hesitant as he speaks to me.

“The fuck!” I explode, my bike getting a little squirrely under me as rage fills me.

“She’s okay. Nothin’ happened while she was there. Handled that shit like a fuckin’ champ. Even got some new business drummed up if I’m hearin’ that shit correctly. Though, she got followed to the hospital by a blacked out SUV. It didn’t stop her or try to ram into her. Nothin’ like that happened. They parked down the road from the entrance she used and she wasn’t about to hang out in the parkin’ lot in an attempt to find out who was followin’ her. She played it smart and came right up to the maternity floor and told Judge about it. Kels met your big brother at the grand openin’. Don’t believe it’ll be too long before he finds out your fuckin’ secret,” he informs me as the rage doesn’t do anything to cool as it races through my veins.

“Where the fuck is she now?” I bark out, twisting the throttle so I speed up while Lash looks at me to find out what’s going on.

“I don’t know. Jaelyn hasn’t had the triplets yet. They’re actually gettin’ ready to take her in for an emergency cesarean section. Things aren’t progressin’ like they want them too,” he tells me as I twist the throttle even more and take off from the guys I’m riding with.

Yeah, this isn’t shit I’m supposed to be fucking doing while on a run. I’m supposed to have Lash’s back and make sure nothing happens to him. Instead, I’m racing off after a fucking woman I’m not even involved with. We fucked one time and she’s already gotten her damn hooks in me. Fuck my life!

“Is someone fuckin’ with her now? Or did you fuckers leave her all alone once again? I mean, we all know she’s got a young kid with her and a psychotic fuckin’ ex after her. Not a big fuckin’ deal or anythin’,” I bark out as Lash catches up to me.

“I didn’t know she was fuckin’ left alone until just before I fuckin’ called you. Talon’s already fuckin’ gone off on everyone there and filled Judge in on the situation as well. For all I know, Judge is the one with her. My focus is on Jae. Where it fuckin’ should be,” Sabotage growls out, his own anger coming out at me. “Now, you either get off your ass and make Kelsey yours or leave her the fuck alone. She doesn’t need you playin’ fuckin’ games with her. Especially when she’s carryin’ your fuckin’ baby. Get the fuck home and deal with your shit.”

Sabotage hangs up on me. I get he’s in the middle of a scary situation right now, but Kelsey should’ve never been fucking left alone for any reason. Plans should have been put in place for Jaelyn going into labor and someone knowing they had to stay with Kelsey no matter where she was. Including inside the gates of the compound. If anything had happened to her or her son, we’d be down a member or two. I’d fucking gut them and not think twice.

“What the fuck is goin’ on with you, Death? This isn’t your first fuckin’ run and it certainly isn’t your first one at my damn side. I’m not gonna hear your ass say nothin’ this time either,” Lash says, his voice cold as hell in his anger.

“Just got off the phone with Sabotage. Good news, you’re about to be a fuckin’ uncle. They’re takin’ Jae into have a cesarean section or some shit. Bad news, when they left the grand fuckin’ openin’ today, Kelsey was left there a-fuckin’-lone,” I grit out between clenched teeth as my rage raises once again. “They fuckin’ know Vince could be in Braedon or have someone there no matter how fuckin’ careful she’s been. And both clubs left her alone with her son in the fuckin’ shop for however long. Then, she got fuckin’ followed as soon as she left the shop. Followed her all the way to the hospital. Didn’t follow her in, but she was still fuckin’ followed.”

“The fuck?” Lash barks out, speeding up even more.
