“Thank you, Lash. And I meant what I said. I’d leave here before I ever thought about coming between him and you guys.”
“I know. That’s what makes you the perfect ol’ lady for him. You put his wants and needs above what you want. You’re stronger than you fuckin’ know, Kelsey. Now get outta here,” he says before turning and leaving the kitchen.
“You heard him girl. I’ve got this shit. Get home and get ready for your man,” Jae urges me as she moves into my spot to take over baking.
“Oh no!” I say, stopping in my tracks as I moved to get Brent from his playpen. “My grocery order won’t be here until tomorrow. I’ve got nothing to make Death for dinner tonight. I’m not supposed to leave the compound, but this is an emergency. Think the guys would let me go to the store really quick?”
“I’m sure we can make it happen. Let me go talk to Sabotage while you get Brent ready to head out. As long as it’s a quick trip, I don’t see it being a problem,” Jae says walking away and toward her husband.
I quickly change Brent’s diaper and put his coat and hat on him before picking up the diaper bag and slinging it over his shoulder. Picking up Brent, I place him on my hip and make my way out to the common room. Talon and Sabotage are standing by the door. Jaelyn’s got a huge smile on her face and I know she’s managed to get her way. I’m going to be able to run to the store and grab something for dinner for Death and me.
Loading up in the SUV, I make sure Brent is secure before getting in the driver’s seat. Talon and Sabotage ride in front of me while Shank follows behind the SUV. We pull out and head to the store in town. It won’t take us long to get there and I’ll be in and out quick as hell. I only need food for dinner considering I’ve already got dessert at the house.
As we get into town, I prepare to stop at the stop sign behind the guys. Before the SUV is even stopped, something slams into me from the side. My head slams against the window as the seat belt locks across my stomach. The SUV I’m using from the club spins and rocks before tipping over. Glass shatters all around me as everything seems to slow down. The SUV starts to slide across the road until it comes to an abrupt stop. We’ve hit something else and I can only hope it wasn’t one of the motorcycles or another vehicle. My mind is spinning as my heart races. The only thing I can focus on is the pain tightening in my stomach and Brent’s screams from the backseat.
Immediately, I try to remove my seatbelt so I can get back to my little boy. As soon as I try moving, the pain in my stomach is so bad it makes me scream out. The next feeling I get is a gush of fluid between my legs. Oh no! This can’t be happening. It’s too early for me to go into labor. As the thought enters my mind, a contraction hits me and it’s so strong my breath leaves my lungs and it’s all I can do to suck in my next one.
“Kelsey!” Talon shouts from somewhere outside the SUV.
“Talon!” I scream out, not sure if he’s able to get to us.
Blood is covering my face and blocking my view of everything around me. My focus is split in two as Brent continues to scream and another contraction starts. I can’t concentrate on the breathing I’m supposed to be doing through the contraction as my entire body is shaking and filled with so much pain. Something is wrong.
“Fuck! Kelsey, Sabotage is already callin’ for an ambulance. I’m not gonna move either one of you,” Talon says, trying to keep his voice calm and even.
“Something’s wrong, Talon. My water broke and I’ve had two contractions. I can’t get to Brent to make sure he’s okay. I need Death,” I sob out, more pain filling me.
“It’s gonna be okay, sweetheart. I’m sure he’ll find out in a matter of seconds. Let’s just focus on keepin’ the two of you secure while makin’ sure the SUV doesn’t catch on fire or anythin’. I’m gonna do a quick walk around to make sure you guys are secure and there’s nothin’ happenin’ I can’t see,” Talon informs me, his voice still calm and gentle.
“Ah!” I scream out, another contraction hitting me.
“Everythin’ looks okay, Kels. Sabotage is on the phone with Lash now. He’s gonna call Death and let him know what’s goin’ on. You hear that? The paramedics are almost here. I can hear the sirens. Are you hangin’ in there?”
“Talon, I can’t do this alone. I need your brother here. He didn’t want to miss this,” I plead with him as if he can snap his fingers and make Death magically appear.
“I know, sweetheart. I’m gonna call Bronwan as soon as you guys get in the ambulance. She’ll meet us at the hospital and we’ll all be there for you. Death will be here as soon as he can. He’ll push his bike to its limits and break every damn law without a care in the world. The guys will meet him and bring him to you immediately,” Talon tries to reassure me as the sirens now fill the area. I can’t see the flashing lights or anything, but there’s a ton of commotion.
Everything moves fast as the paramedics arrive at the side of the SUV. I’m asked a million questions I can’t answer as my son continues to scream in the backseat.
“Someone get my son!” I scream out as another contraction hits. “Get Brent out of the SUV and make sure he’s okay. That’s what I fucking want right now.”
I’m left alone for a little while. I can’t see anything going on in the back as Talon lets me know what’s going on. It takes the paramedics a long time to get Brent out of the SUV. He’s still screaming and it breaks my heart because I can’t wrap him up in my arms and hold him close.
“Sweetheart, Sabotage is gettin’ in the ambulance with Brent. They’ve got two here. He’s gonna ride to the hospital with your boy. They’re takin’ off now. As soon as he knows somethin’, he’ll call me. I’m not leavin’ your side for any reason,” Talon informs me.
“What’s wrong with Brent? Is he okay, Talon? I want to be in there with him,” I rush out as the windshield in front of me is ripped from the SUV.
“I don’t know, Kelsey. Sabotage won’t leave his side no matter what anyone says. Kathy is on her way there now. She’s gonna check him over personally. Bronwan is on her way to the hospital now and will meet us there. Everyone is on the road,” he says as the paramedics work to get me out of the vehicle.
I’m not sure how much time passes before I’m finally removed and placed on a backboard. My neck has been put in a brace to ensure I don’t have a broken neck or anything. I can’t see anything as the blood still covers my face. Fear consumes me as the contractions continue on.
“Talon?” I call out, not sure where he is.
“I’m right here, sweetheart. Not goin’ anywhere. Can’t you see me?” he questions his voice finally breaking as worry fills it.
“No, I can’t. I know I hit my head on the window. The blood is in my face and is gluin’ my eyes shut,” I answer him, still shaking uncontrollably.
“Clean up her fuckin’ face. Why the fuck is she shakin’ like this?” Talon barks out orders as if he’s the medic.
