“Where’s Brent? I need him here with me. Right now, Lash,” I tell the President of the club, letting my hysterics take over and not caring about how I’m talking to him right now.

“Brent’s safe, Kelsey,” Death says, as I keep my eyes locked on Lash so I don’t look at the man I want nothing to do with. “He’s with Talon and Bronwan at their house. They picked him up from here when you were bein’ examined. You weren’t wakin’ up and we knew he couldn’t stay here with you. Jaelyn is still in the hospital with the babies so she can’t have him at her house”

“No, Ineedhim. here with me. He can’t be with anyone else. None of you fucking understand. I want my son here and nowhere else. I’ll figure out how to take care of him until I’m released,” I tell Lash, my voice begging him to bring my son to me.

“How about Death goes to see him. He can let you know how he’s doing and even call you here so you can see him. Would that work? You’re goin’ to be gettin’ out of here soon and there’s no reason to bring Brent here. Not when you can barely move or get out of that bed. Brent isn’t goin’ to understand you’re hurt and can’t do everythin’ you usually do to take care of him,” Sabotage suggests, his voice soft and gentle as he looks at me with sad eyes.

“Vince threatened him, Sabotage. Ineedhim here with me. It’s the only way I know he won’t get his hands on him. I can protect him,” I try again, taking my attention off Lash and put it on Sabotage while still avoiding looking at Death.

“I know he did, sweetheart. We’ve watched the footage from the shop. Heard every vile fuckin’ word he said to you. Saw what he did to your body. I don’t know what the fuck made the Prospect leave, but as soon as we find him, he’s gonna get an ass whoopin’ from me. He fuckin’ left you alone and there’s no reason for it. Lash didn’t tell him to do a fuckin’ thing at the clubhouse because he knew he was watchin’ over you. That tells us Vince got to him. Paid him off or some shit,” Sabotage tells me, stepping up closer to the bed and looking pointedly at my stomach in a silent question.

“I don’t know. Haven’t gotten to that part of my freak out yet. Brent is my main concern for obvious reasons,” I tell him quietly.

Death makes a noise in his throat as he steps up to my bed.

“I’m gonna go to Bronwan and Talon’s house now. My brother isn’t gonna let anythin’ happen to your son, Half Pint. He’ll protect him with his life and Vince won’t get close to him. We already know he’s gonna stay in town until he gets what he wants. We just can’t find him. Guys are out searchin’ town for him now. He’s not gettin’ close to you again,” Death promises me, his voice sounding almost as if he truly cares what happens to me and my son. To the baby of his I carry.

Death’s eyes are resting on my stomach and don’t leave as pain fills his features. He has no clue if I’m still pregnant or if anything has happened to our child. I’m not about to alleviate his silent question either. I don’t know any answers to give him. And he wants nothing to do with our child so it doesn’t really matter what’s going on with him or her. I’ll find out the answers I need and then go from there. Death doesn’t need to know one way or the other because I’m not going to take a dime of his money for any reason.

“Doc has been the one treatin’ you, Kelsey. She’ll be in here soon to fill you in on what your injuries are and answer any questions you may have,” Lash informs me as I turn my attention to Boxer.

He hasn’t said a word to me or spoken at all since the four of them came in the room. Boxer doesn’t move to leave with Death as he exits my room or anything. The man simply stands against the wall with his arms folded over his chest as he stares me down. I’m drawn to him but not in a sexual manner. It’s because he’s so quiet and watching the room around him. A silent pillar who isn’t going to let anything past him. So far, he hasn’t been on guard duty for me and this is the first time I’m really getting a chance to observe him for any length of time.

“I guess it doesn’t matter who my doctor is at this point. Vince clearly knows where I am and I’m already in the hospital. So, everything can be on the books now,” I state, my voice monotone as the reality of this entire situation sinks in.

I no longer need to hide here in Braedon because Vince knows I’m here. He expects me to get ahold of my lawyer and get the money from my trusts to him. It’s not going to happen, but that’s what he wants. Right now, the best option for me would be to contact my lawyer, get just enough money to keep myself going for a few months and take off for parts unknown. Hide away from my ex who wants to beat me into submission or take my son. If he doesn’t know where I am, he can’t get his hands on Brent. By leaving here, it will make him look for me and realize I’m not going to give my son up without a fight. I’ll protect him until my dying breath and make sure Vince never gets the chance to have him or sell him off to anyone.

“You’re not leavin’ here, Kels. Can see it in your fuckin’ eyes. You’re better off here where we can protect Brent and you. Vince won’t get to you if you’re here,” Sabotage says, his voice hard and unyielding as he glares down at me.

“If I’m not here, Vince can’t take Brent from me. He won’t be able to sell him off to some highest bidder or any of the other bullshit he spewed while beating me. I’m not giving him my money. He’s already taken so much from me. My son is all I have left that means anything in the world to me. The best thing for me to do is keep moving. It might be any kind of life for you guys who have homes and a family here, but it’s the best option for me. For my son,” I tell him, knowing in my heart it’s the right thing to do.

“And what about the other situation you have goin’ on?” Lash questions me, letting me know he knows about the baby I’m carrying. Death must have told him at some point. It’s the only explanation.

“What about it? He’s made himself perfectly clear about what he wants to happen. Other than financial support, there’s nothing he wants to do with it. So, I’ll keep everything to myself and do what I have to do. It doesn’t matter what he wants or does since I know what he wants. Not gonna do anything to change his mind about it either,” I tell Lash as pain fills me when I try to move to a more comfortable position on the bed.

“Am I the only one who doesn’t know what the fuck is bein’ talked about right now?” Boxer finally speaks, looking between the three of us with confusion filling his face.

“You are. Not my story to share or tell. Kelsey might not want anyone else to know what’s goin’ on and that’s her decision to make. So, where you gonna go if you run? And you’re gonna leave the shop before Jae can get back to it?” Sabotage asks, filling me with guilt because I swore to his woman I wouldn’t leave her in a bind when she had her babies.

“Nope. I gave Jae my word and I’ll keep it. It will give me time to do what I have to do before moving on. I already know of the direction I’ll go in. It will be far enough from here that no one will have to see me or have the situation thrown in their face on a daily basis while remaining close to someone who wants to be there,” I tell Sabotage leaving him just as confused as his younger brother.

“You seein’ someone else? Someone we don’t know?” Lash asks, staring me down as a knock sounds on the door.

“Nope. Just someone who wants to be there for the little person. Nothing more or less,” I respond as Kathy makes her way in my room while looking at a tablet in her hands.

“Good afternoon, Kelsey,” she says, finally looking up at me and the guys in my room. “Guys. How are you feeling today, Kelsey?”

“Like I’ve been run over. Repeatedly. I already know nothing’s broken and it’s going to take time for my wounds to heal and the bruises to fade. Not my first rodeo, Kathy. I don’t want pain medicine or anything else because of the current situation. When can I get out of here?” I ask her, not wanting to be in this room for longer than necessary.

“I assume we’re not talking about the situation with everyone in the room. So, yes, it’s going to take time for your injuries to heal. Mainly surface bruising and some small cuts. None of them needed stitches. Everything looks good so far. I’d like to do an additional test though. Not just to give you peace of mind about things but to make sure for myself. Once we get those results back, we can figure out when you get out of here. I’m not sure if the testing will be done today though. The machine is being temperamental and we have to make sure it’s going to work before doing anything,” Kathy informs me as she offers me a small smile.

“Okay. I’d just like to get out of here as soon as possible without causing any harm to anything.”

“I understand.”

Kathy gives me a small exam as the guys remain in the room. She lets me know food will be in soon for me to eat and she’s not putting me on any type of special diet. In fact, she lets me know if I want anything that’s not available here to eat that I can let her know and she’ll make sure I get it. It’s really sweet of her to offer, but I’m good with hospital food. Nothing is going to taste very good right now. Not when I know Vince is so damn close and more than likely watching every move I make. I’m sure there’s guys here in the hospital watching over me to make sure I don’t run. Or he’s paid of staff members to get details on my stay here. Nothing surprises me when it comes to Vince and how far he’s willing to go to keep me in his sights.

Once Kathy leaves the room, the guys all head out. Sabotage needs to get up to his woman and children while Lash has other things to do. Boxer is the one getting left behind today. He’ll be out in the hallway to make sure no one gets in here who doesn’t belong. When a nurse or someone comes in, he stands in the doorway and watches them like a hawk. No one will do anything to me with him standing guard. It’s kind of refreshing to know someone has my best interests at heart and will make sure Vince can’t get to me.
