The next day passed similarly. By the third, I could tell Sirus was itching to get to the heart of the earth fae land, but his magic wasn’t quite ready.
“Let’s go on a walk,” I whispered to him, when I noticed him clenching and unclenching his fist, testing his magic.
“I’d like to get moving,” he grumbled to me.
“It’ll be safer if you wait until tomorrow, right?” I checked.
His grimace answered the question for him.
“Then let’s go on a walk.” Everyone was practicing their signing anyway. Well, except Margo, who was sharpening a stick into what was starting to resemble a machete. I wasn’t sure I wanted to get near her while she was holding that thing.
“Ayla?” I called out.
She lifted her head.
“Can you keep an eye on Dove for us? We need to get away from the lake for a while.”
She nodded. “Sure!”
“Thanks!”
“Bye!” Dove waved at us for all of half of a second before she focused back on her conversation with Flood.
“Walks are good for the soul,” I told Sirus. “I used to try to get Steven to go with me, but he thought it was a waste of time.”
“Well, Steven is a fucknut,” Storm tossed back.
I grinned.
He’d warned me the day before that he was going to start making up new insults every time I told him a shitty Steven story, because he wanted me to tell him things even if they made him mad.
I loved that he wanted to hear them, and thoroughly enjoyed his terrible insults.
“I’m just ready to get moving. Feels like we’re sitting targets out here,” Sirus admitted.
“Anyone who was hunting us from the water fae land wouldn’t expect us to have reached the lake yet,” I reminded him. “We’re plenty safe.”
“I know. I’m just worried.” His arm tucked around my waist, and we started wading through the swamp. “And I’d like to get to a place with bedrooms. And doors. The earth fae land will get us one step closer to that.”
“You miss me?” I teased him.
Honestly,Imissedhim.
He was gorgeous, and he was mine, and I hadn’t really been able to touch him in days.
“More than you know.” He tugged me into his arms, turning me and pinning me to the nearest tree. There was mud up to the middle of my calves, but for once, I didn’t care.
His lips captured mine, his hand sliding under the shitty straps of my dress so he could grab my breast.
“Fuck, Sway,” he hissed at me as he pulled his mouth away, dragging his thumb over my nipple. “I shouldn’t take you against this tree.”
“Youshouldtake me against this tree,” I countered, tugging my dress’s skirt-flap-things around so my legs were exposed.
His eyes were hot. “You sure?”
“Sosure.” I pushed his pants down until his cock was free, and wrapped my fingers around him.
“I want to taste you,” he growled at me, while I slid my hand over his erection.
