“Can you believe she went on a cruise with some random guy? She sure moved on quickly.”
“So it seems.” I chuckled as I hooked my arm around her. “Why don’t you go upstairs and get ready for bed. I’ll clean up down here.”
“I can help.”
“You’re tired.” I kissed her head. “Go on. I’ll be up soon.”
“Don’t be too long.” The corners of her mouth curved upward.
I knew that smile, and I knew that look. After quickly cleaning up, I went upstairs. When I entered our bedroom, I found Georgia sitting up with her back against the headboard in my favorite black nightie I’d bought her for Christmas.
“Damn.” A wide grin crossed my face as I pulled my shirt over my head.
After quickly taking down my pants and underwear, I grabbed her hips and pulled her flat on the bed, grabbing her arms and holding them above her head.
“You want it rough, Dr. Kind?” The corners of her mouth curved upward.
“You bet I do.” I leaned down and kissed her lips.
CHAPTER10
Jackson
The following morning, I went to the hospital to check on a couple of patients before heading to the medical center. When I was done, I went up to George Sutherland’s office.
“Hey, Jackson. Come on in.”
“Thanks, George. Sorry for just popping in, but I need to talk to you about something.”
“Of course. Have a seat.” He gestured. “What’s going on?”
“I want to get your permission to have my niece, Ella, sit in on one of my surgeries. She wants to be in the operating room.”
He sighed. “I don’t know, Jackson.”
“Listen. You know she’s an extraordinary child. Medicine is everything to her. She’s going to become a brilliant doctor one day. She’s studied everything about every part of the body and wants this really badly. I would consider this a teaching lesson.”
“What does Nathan say about it?”
“He wasn’t allowing it at first, but my brothers and I talked to him and got him to agree.”
“How old is she again?” he asked.
“She just turned seven. George, I know you’re hesitant about it, but it’s all she wants, and I don’t see the harm as long as she can handle it. The second she can’t, I’ll have her removed from the O.R.”
“You’ll have to get permission from the patient first, Jackson.”
“I will. I have a craniotomy this Friday, and she doesn’t have school.”
“What time is your surgery scheduled for?” he asked.
“Eight a.m.”
He glanced at his calendar.
“Okay. I’ll be up in the operating suite watching, though.”
“I figured you would.” I smiled. “Thanks, George.” I extended my hand. “Ella will be very happy.”
