He’s not wrong.

Dare I believe him? Dare I take a chance on him staying here? If he leaves, he’ll take my heart with him. Can I chance the heartbreak? I bite my lip as I contemplate my choices.

“I know you’re scared.”

I bristle. Cassandra Claire Dempsey isn’t afraid of anything.

“I get it. I’m scared, too.”

Cedar is not the type of man to be frightened of anything.

“What are you scared of?”

“Of you not giving us a chance.”

He leans forward to nibble on my ear and I melt into him.

“Maybe I need a bit more convincing before I give us a chance.”

I sound as if I’m teasing, but I’m not. Giving him a chance is a one-way street to heartbreak. I visited the location recently and it wasn’t much fun.

He stands with me in his arms. “Challenge accepted.”

He carries me toward the back door. “Where are you going? I need to work.”

“I got it,” Lennon says from the end of the hall. “You kids go enjoy yourselves.”

Cedar gazes down at me. His eyes are on fire. “We will,” he mutters. “We will.”

Chapter 33

Patience is more than a virtue. It’s a necessity ~ Cedar’s rules for capturing the skittish Cassie’s heart

Cedar

Ispot Cassie’s car in the parking lot and exhale a sigh of relief. I don’t think I can walk the distance to her apartment with my cock hard and begging for me to take her. And there’s no place in Winter Falls to have sex outside without someone happening upon you.

They wouldn’t care. In fact, many residents would stop to watch and cheer you on. But I have no interest in sharing my most intimate moments with Cassie with anyone. They’re mine and no one else’s.

This time when I try to start her car, I need to input a pin code.

“What’s the code?”

“One one two zero.”

One one two zero, I repeat to myself as I punch in the number and the engine ignites. Is it a date? November twentieth. It’s not her birthday. Could it be the date of her parents’ death? I wouldnever ask her, but I do know one thing that happened on the date.

“November twentieth is the day we met.”

“Don’t make a big deal about it.”

I glance to the left before she notices the smirk on my face. It’s all the confirmation I need. She cares about me as much as I care about her. I was all in before, but now I won’t let her push me away. Not anymore.

The drive to Cassie’s apartment is fast. When we arrive, I hurry out of the car and rush to her door before dragging her out of the car and to her apartment.

She giggles. “In a hurry?”

Damn straight, I’m in a hurry. I’ve spent more than a week thinking I lost her. Wondering how to get her back. Worried she’d escape town before I had the chance to convince her we’re perfect together.
