“You’re incorrigible.” She shook her head.
I shrugged, pulling her toward me for a quick kiss before moving to the door and letting her pass.
As she made her way halfway down the hall, I called, “Goddess?”
“Yes.” She glanced over her shoulder, and I felt as if my heart stopped.
I fucking loved this woman, and she hadn’t a clue.
“You wanted a reason.”
She nodded.
“I’ll give you one after you close shop, then you decide. The ball is completely in your court.”
“Really?”
“Yes.”
Her lips trembled for a split second, then she nodded, turning to go into the main parlor of the penthouse.
Two hoursafter leaving Nyx to finish her gaming night, I arrived at a series of warehouses in a suburb near Las Vegas. I knew two things about the meeting that would occur in the next few minutes.
First, it was an epic waste of time, but necessary to keep Santos on a leash. Second, Santos wasn’t aware that at this very moment, a group of my men was clearing out his shipping warehouse where Albert had stored my missing cargo.
I may have failed to become the exact image of Gio Drakos, but I had learned his ability to wait people out and watch them hang themselves. Once my freight sat safely in storage, I’d let my lieutenants handle the takeover of Santos’s territory.
Motherfucker had no idea he’d messed with the wrong Drakos.
“This area is too quiet,” Kasen observed as the car pulled to a stop and our men got into position.
“My thoughts exactly. Do you get the feeling this is some type of setup? No, I’m positive it’s a setup.”
“Albert has to know this is Draco’s territory. Any move against you is like declaring war on him too.”
My thoughts went to Nyx.
“We already know neither Albert nor Hal understand the order of things. Make sure everything is fine at the penthouse.” I grabbed my revolver, tucking it into the waistband of my pants.
The hell if I’d take any chances.
“She’s going to hand you your balls. Her team can handle anything.”
“Just do it. Something about this doesn’t feel right. Let me send a message to Sota. I’d rather err on the side of caution and have backup than end up dead on Draco’s turf.”
After sending my text to Sota, I stepped out of my car and made my way to the metal doors where Santos had indicated we’d meet.
I clenched my jaw, seeing nothing but a chair in the center of an empty space.
“There’s an envelope on the seat,” Kasen noticed and went to get it.
Opening it, he pulled out the contents and lifted an angry gaze to mine.
“We need to get back to Vegas now.” He stalked toward me. “Keep it together.”
I grabbed the stack of papers from him and looked down as a rage like nothing I’d felt filled my body. “I’m going to kill him. I’m going to kill every last one of them.”
There were images of Nyx and me from our night on the balcony of her penthouse, every intimate detail of what had happened.
