J: Same, nothing special going on here, just no roommate.
They chatted back and forth for a while until she told him she had to go. He would have continued to text her all day if she’d let him.
Hell, he wanted her here today; that had been his plan. Well, maybe not here here but to be hanging out with her today. It wasn’t about sex. That could wait. He felt connected to her and was still a little hurt that she hadn’t wanted to meet him.
He sat around the house for a bit, caught up on his work emails, and sorted through a few projects before he got too bored to stick around. Picking up his phone, he dialed Cade.
“What are you doing today?” he asked after Cade answered.
“Not shit,” Cade replied.
“Cool, I’m coming over.”
“I said I wasn’t doing anything, not that I wanted to do something.”
“We can do nothing with a beer at your place,” Jake told him.
“God, you’re needy when you’re having relationship issues.”
“Yep. See you in a bit.”
Cade cussed as Jake hung up the phone. He’d known Cade forever and knew he didn’t really mind or he wouldn’t have pressed.
Considering that drinks were on his mind, he called for a car before heading down to meet it. He probably wouldn’t leave Cade’s at all, but if he did, he wouldn’t be in any condition to drive. Plus, traffic on the weekends sucked. It was easier to let someone else deal with it.
A few hours and too many drinks later, he found himself in Cade’s kitchen with a massive slice of pizza, trying to convince him to tell him who the date was.
“Come on, give me any piece of information?” He was almost to begging.
“If she’s not ready, then she’s not. I’m not going to give her away.”
“But you do know?” he asked.
“We all know,” Cade confirmed with a nod.
“Fuck.” Jake tore off a bit of his pizza. “You’re really not going to tell me?”
“I’m not.” Cade didn’t bother looking up from his phone.
“Tell me this, am I going to be happy?”
“Are you happy talking to her?” Cade set his phone down and looked at him.
“Yes.” He loved talking to her. He just wanted to do it in the daylight, or streetlights, literally any light as long as it was in person.
“Then what would I say that would make you change your mind?”
That got him to stop. There wasn’t anything at this point that would change his mind. Maybe if she had a dozen kids or was married, but honestly, he could work through all that if the person was the same one he’d been talking to.
“Is she married?” Jake asked, letting the thoughts out.
“What? Of course not. What the fuck is wrong with you?”
Jake shrugged. Well at least he knew that much. His brain sloshed around as he tried to convince himself that he wasn’t drunk.
“Dude, go lie the fuck down before you puke on my shit.”
Probably a good idea. He made his way to Cade’s spare bedroom and let himself collapse onto the bed.
