Confusion didn’t last but a second before she realized what he meant. They were flying private.
The private cars she’d gotten used to with Cade and Catherine, but she’d never flown with them. Even all the times she’d traveled with her mother, she’d never been on a private plane.
“Come on,” he told her as he got out.
They walked a short way before Jake greeted someone. She didn’t pay attention to the conversation; there was too much else going on in her mind for that.
A little farther and they reached the plane. She probably should have but couldn’t contain her awe as she stepped inside the plane.
“I didn’t get staff aside from the pilots, but I think we can manage.” He winked at her. “Have a seat.”
Where, she thought as she looked around. The table, the sofa? Was that a bed back there?
Making her mind up for her, Jake pulled her down at the small table. “Buckle in,” he told her.
Jake took both of their bags and put them into a closet, pushing it closed, before he took a seat across from her. He buckled himself in and watched her as she attempted to do the same.
She was surprised that her fingers worked because her brain didn’t. Takeoff gave her the chance to really look around. It wasn’t anything super special as far as decor went, but it was a freaking private plane.
There was one long sofa across from the table they were in. It was a beautiful cream color, one she’d be scared to spill anything on. Behind Jake was a fridge and several snacks behind glass doors. Farther down was what had to be a bedroom, and then another door she imagined was the bathroom.
“Do you like it?” he asked once they were in air.
She widened her eyes as she looked at him. “What’s not to like?”
“Never flown private before?” he asked.
She shook her head.
“Come on, let me show you around.”
Lauren went to stand only to meet with resistance. She shook her head at herself. She was buckled in and completely forgot.
Undoing the buckle, she stood and followed him to the back of the plane.
“This is the bedroom. So if we don’t want to leave until super late Sunday, we can get some sleep and still get to work on Monday.”
“How long is our flight?” she asked, attempting to figure out where they might be going.
Jake just flashed his smile instead of answering that question. “There’s a TV in here with some movies I like to watch. The bathroom is through there.” He pointed to the other door like she had thought.
“This is insane,” she said as she took in the bed that made up the back of the plane.
He shrugged. “I’m glad you like it. Wanna nap before we get there? Or watch a movie?”
She was so nervous and excited there was no chance of her sleeping. She probably wouldn’t concentrate on a movie either, but she crawled onto the bed anyway.
And that was the thing. There were no sides to the bed to walk around. You literally had to kick off your shoes and just crawl across it.
He crawled in after her, shoving the pillows behind his head as he got comfortable and then pulled her to him, her head resting on his chest.
“Pick one.” He handed her the remote.
She scrolled through the movies and picked one she thought he’d like and set it back down. As she was snuggling into him, he pulled a blanket from somewhere and covered them both.
Chapter Twenty-Two
“Wake up.” Jake’s voice broke through her sleep.
