The best part was that she knew Jenna meant it. Catherine hadn’t said it, but she knew she meant it too. These were friends that she would do anything for and she knew they would for her too.
“What are you going to do about Jake?” Catherine asked.
“Do about?” Lauren furrowed her brows in confusion.
“It’s obvious you two are perfect for each other, so when are you going to tell him that you love him and just move in with him already?” She was so casual about it as Lauren choked on her drink.
“What the fuck, Catherine?” Jenna came around to pat her on the back as she coughed.
Catherine just shrugged and grinned as Jake raced over to see what was wrong.
“Are you okay?” he hurried out, moving Jenna out of the way.
“Told you.” Catherine whispered.
“I’m fine,” Lauren managed. “Drink went down the wrong way.”
He kissed the top of her head. “Don’t scare me like that.”
“Wasn’t on purpose,” she answered, getting her voice back.
Jake nodded and turned to Catherine. “Told her what?”
Lauren sent her a death glare.
Catherine waved a manicured hand at him, brushing the topic off. “Girl stuff.”
Jake rolled his eyes and focused back on Lauren. “Do you need anything?”
“I’m good, really.”
“Okay.” He kissed her again and went back to the table.
“New topic!” Jenna declared. “What happened with Cade and your father?”
“Oh, they aren’t speaking. Cade actually banned my father from the building, if you can believe that.”
“Parents can be a pain in the ass,” Lauren said.
“That’s the truth. But of course, Father showed up to the office and wasn’t let in, so that started a whole round of fights again. Cade is ignoring him and doing a good job of it. I am, too, but Mom is now trying to be the mediator. Not sure if it’s going to work itself out soon.”
“Damn,” Lauren said.
“Good news is, you won’t have to deal with him anymore.” Catherine shrugged like this was the most normal thing in the world.
“I’m sure he’ll be calling the office first thing tomorrow.”
“Nope, Cade went all in and blocked him there too.”
“Wow.” Jenna threw back her mixed drink.
“It’s been a wild weekend,” Catherine said
“That’s the truth,” Lauren said, taking a sip of her own drink.
They chatted some more as the night grew late, and the men kept up their own conversations until Evan came to join them.
“My friend that owns The Blind Date wants to know if she can use you and Jake as a testimonial of sorts? Jake said it was your call,” Evan asked Lauren.
