“Is Vivi okay?”
I couldn’t answer her. I just handed her the phone and let her flip through.
Sarah seethed, walking to my room and slamming the door behind her. “I’m going to kill this bitch.”
“Get in line,” I said, looking for clean clothes to change into.
“Why is she sending you the pics?”
“To rub it in?” To be honest, I hadn’t really wondered why. Maybe I should have tried to figure out what her endgame really was.
“There must be a reason, right? I mean, other than she is a psycho bitch.”
“Rune said she was waiting. She didn’t contact us immediately because she wants us worried, frantic, sleep-deprived and sloppy. Maybe that is why she is sending the pictures?”
“Trying to make you angry and stupid.” Sarah nodded. “Smart.”
I sent her a pointed glare.
“In a B-movie-villain kind of way,” she added.
My phone pinged again with another text from Vivi’s phone.
Small Blonde
If you want your sister safe, I’ll make a trade.
What do you want?
Small Blonde
I want to lead my people. I want to be the next Queen of Hell and right the fucking scales. I can’t have that. You took that from me when you took Rune. So I’ll trade your sister for you.
Small Blonde
You show up alone, and I’ll let Vivi go, and she can get herself home. If you show up with Rune or anyone else, she dies before you get out of the car. If Rune so much as leaves the castle, I’ll know and I’ll slit her little throat. The worlds would be a better place for it. She would die before turning into a little halfling whore, just like her sister.
“What is she saying?” Sarah asked, trying to see the phone screen.
“She is offering to let me take Vivi’s place.”
“I’m assuming there is a catch.”
“If she sees Rune or anyone with me, she’ll kill Vivi.” I could barely say that out loud, though I had no doubts that Sif would do it without a second’s hesitation.
Small Blonde
Do you accept?
How do I know you’ll let her go?
Small Blonde
What other choice do you really have?
Where do you want to meet?
“What are you going to do?” Sarah asked again.
