“Oh yeah, I am going to have fun breaking you, you stupid little bitch.”
“Fuck you,” I screamed.
“Fuck me?” He laughed “No, fuck you.”
He slammed me into a bookshelf. The shelves dug into my ribs and my stomach, knocking the breath from my lungs. I coughed and gasped.
He pulled me up by my hair again then threw me back into the shelves. The heavy shelf teetered back and forth before tipping over and crashing through the glass storefront.
Definitely fired.
“Shit,” Hank drawled behind me. “We better get her in the truck. That’ll catch someone’s attention. Let’s teach this little bitch some manners somewhere more private-like.”
Prison Tat grabbed me again, this time by my arm. He painfully twisted it as he hauled me up, then he tossed me over his shoulder. His shoulder dug painfully into my stomach, making me want to vomit. I was pretty sure if I had anything in my stomach, I would have thrown up all over him. I knew I should have eaten before going to work.
My head was swimming, and every part of me hurt. I couldn’t imagine it was going to be much better when they got me somewhere where no one could hear me scream.

Adrenaline Can Lead To Questionable Life Choices
Prison Tat carried me towards the office when the bell over the door chimed.
I looked up and saw Rune. His wings were spread behind him. His horns were long and straight. His fingers turned to long, sharp, black daggers, and his fangs fully extended.
The low growl he let out should’ve terrified me, but it sent pleasant shivers up and down my spine. I knew he was here for me. To save me, again. He was here to protect me.
Fuck, that was sexy.
With a smile, I said over my shoulder, “You boys are in so much trouble.”
Prison Tat had stiffened the moment he heard the growl. He whipped around to see where the sound was coming from, swinging my head into the doorjamb.
Mother fucker!
Rune’s growl intensified when my head made contact. He must have stalked towards my attacker because I was unceremoniously dropped like a sack of potatoes before he ran out of the back door.
Within a moment, Rune was crouched down in front of me.
“Are you okay?” he asked gently, tilting my chin up to look in my eyes.
“I am fine. Get them,” I said, meeting his gaze. The concern there turned to resolve just before he stood and ran after my attackers.
I sat up against a wall. My head was throbbing, and the room was spinning around me.
That couldn’t be good.
This morning, Murmur had given me an extra silver leaf pill that I thankfully had put in my pocket. I reached in, hoping it was still there.
When I found the pill tucked in the top corner of my pocket, I let out a sigh of relief. Hopefully this would at least slow the room down. I popped the pill and dry swallowed it.
A few seconds later, something crashed from outside, then the distinct high squeal of tires spinning on asphalt sounded before they caught. The smell of burning rubber rolled my stomach. Whatever had happened, I was sure Rune could handle it. I closed my eyes for a moment, letting the pill do its work while I tried not to let the dizziness force me to throw it back up.

When I opened my eyes again, it could have been a few seconds or several minutes later.
I wasn’t sure.
