She obviously didn’t know he was there, so he snuck behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist. She squealed when he bit her neck.

“I thought I’d have to wake you.”

“Delicious smells woke me. Breakfast for dinner? I like my shirt on you.”

“You’re an observant one.”

He chuckled against her throat. “Never miss a detail.”

“I love breakfast for dinner. It’s my favorite.”

“I’ll have to remember that.”

When she bumped her ass against his groin and ordered him to find two plates he laughed. “Bossy.”

“You have no idea how bossy I can be.”

One eyebrow arched at the tone of her voice and the implication. “Demonstration later?”

Tessa turned with a piece of bacon held to her lips, bit it, chewed, and brightly smiled. Her gaze slid the length of his body, and she swayed ever so slightly before moving closer and offering him a bite. “My techniques are a secret.”

He bit into the bacon but didn’t miss the sparkle in her eyes. “Secrets are temptation.”

“Then we play a game of temptation, Mr. Cross.”

A nervous laugh escaped at her insinuation. He’d have to be careful because Tessa could be a worthy opponent, and damn if that didn’t excite him.

One way or another, she wanted to know everything and if he used attraction against her, she could use it against him. “How’s your food?”

“Good. Who taught you to cook?”

“My grandmother.”

“What do you do when you’re not at work, Tessa?”

The question caught her off guard. He wanted to know more about her life. And now? “I like outdoor sports like kayaking and hiking. It might seem old fashion to you, but my grandmother taught me to quilt.”

“I don’t think it’s old fashion. I’d like to see some of your creations.”

“Really? I would think my life boring when compared to that of a seasoned Green Beret? Tessa nodded to his shoulder. “I saw the tattoo.”

His smile unsettled her, but he didn’t seem angry she broached the subject.

“I spent eight years in the Army. It was a good life.”

“So, you went to war?”

“Yes.”

“And now?”

“Now, I still work for the government.”

“Which agency?”

“That’s classified, Tessa.”
