But I don’t. I keep running.
I run through the open bay on the front of the garage and out the open door on the back.
I head straight for the separate building behind the garage where we store our personal vehicles.
Once inside, I grab the keys to one of our ATVs and my helmet off the shelf.
“Mac!” Liam calls after me. “You’re too upset to go riding. She’s gone, and I told her to never come back.”
I ignore him, clip my helmet into place, and mount the ATV. I start it up, give it a little gas, then look up. Liam, Ash, Chase, and Christian are lined up, elbow-to-elbow, blocking my exit.
“Move!” I yell out above the sound of the engine. None of them respond. They just stare at me like they’re daring me to run them over.
And I dare.
I give the ATV a little gas and it jerks toward my brothers. They don’t flinch.
“Get out of my way.” I demand.
“You’re going to have to run us over if you want out of here,” Liam says.
I glare at him. If that’s the way he wants to play it, so be it.
I give the ATV a little more gas and slowly approach them. I almost knock into Ash when Sophia yells out.
“That’s enough.” We all look in her direction. She’s clipping a helmet in place as she approaches me. Before any of us can object, she swings a leg over the back of the ATV and slides in close to me.
“Get off!” I growl.
“Nope,” she says. It sounds like she’s smiling and that makes me even angrier. “If you’re going, so am I.”
“No, you’re not,” I say through clenched teeth.
“Yes, I am. If you’re going to be dumb enough to risk your life, then you’re risking mine too.” She wraps her arms around my waist and presses her chest against my back. I hate how much I like how it feels. “Let’s go, hot stuff.”
I shake my head, wanting to argue with her, but lacking the energy or the words. When I look up, my brothers have stepped aside. They’re staring at us in surprise and maybe even a little awe.
I get it. And as much as I hate to admit it, Sophia is an exceptional person. Grams is so right about her. Sophia is a badass, and she puts up with my shit like a champ.
I’ve been nothing but an ass to her for two weeks, and yet she hopped on the back of the ATV with me, ready to make sure I’m okay.
I don’t deserve her kindness, but she still seems ready to give it to me.
Something tells me she’s going to ruin me for all other women.
I take off out of the garage without a glance back at my brothers and head for the forest trails. I don’t take them nearly as fast and hard as I want to. I still drive like a wild man, just dialed back a notch or two.
But Sophia doesn’t know that. Every time I go barreling down a steep hill faster than I should, she tightens her hold around my waist and yells at me to slow down. I don’t.
Mainly because I really like how she clings to me. I like how her hands feel pressed against my abdomen. It causes my chest to tighten and my dick to thicken.
When we reach an opening in the woods, I veer the ATV off the trail. It’s a secret path I’ve taken many times before, but not enough that it’s easy to see the trail. The ground is rough, and the ATV jerks from side-to-side, making it a challenge to stay upright. But I know what I’m doing.
Despite Sophia’s pleas, I keep pushing forward until I reach the spot where the trees open up to a grassy bank near a small creek that runs through our property.
Before I even get the ATV turned off, she hops off and pulls her helmet off her head. “What in the hell is wrong with you? That was some crazy driving, not to mention reckless!”
“I didn’t ask you to come with me,” I say, my voice devoid of all emotion. “You’re just gonna have to take me as I am. Besides, I took it easy on you.”
