“Okay.” I took a bite of stew.
“Okay? That’s it?”
“What do you want me to say?” I inquired. “The club wants to ensure we’re protected. As far as I’m concerned, that’s all there is to it.” I set my bowl of stew aside, leaned back against the counter, and spread my legs. “Let’s make the most of our honeymoon before we have to go back to the real world.”
Duke dropped to his knees. “Dessert before dinner. Just the way I like it.”
Chapter47
“Ido notlike that,”I stated. “I do not like that at all.”
“What?” Mia asked, looking around the back yard of the clubhouse.
I gestured with my chin in the direction of Sailor and Waverly, who were sitting on top of the picnic table, their heads together, as they were clearly attempting to have a private conversation.
“I don’t get it,” Joni said, adjusting the newborn to her other shoulder. “What’s not to like?”
“They’re conspiring,” I stated. “I just know it.”
“Conspiring about what?” Allison asked.
“Something to do with boys,” I remarked. I took a sip of my soda.
“Waverly already has a boy,” Brooklyn said.
“But Sailor doesn’t, and she’s a knockout,” I replied.
The Blue Angels brothers came out of the building they used for church. My eyes swept over them, landing on Duke.
I absently touched my wedding ring.
“Married looks good on you,” Brooklyn said with a smile, her hand resting on her belly.
“Feels good, too,” I admitted. “Even though we have two teenagers in the rental. It’s hard trying to make a baby without privacy.”
“When do you move into the new house?” Rachel asked.
“Soon,” I said. “We should get the keys in a few days. Until then, we’re doing it in the truck daily.”
Mia nodded. “You learn to get creative.”
“And fast,” Allison added. “In between baby naps.”
“Quickies become the norm,” Darcy added. “I miss slow and low.”
“I need a refill,” Rachel announced, quickly leaving the group of Old Ladies; sans Doc, who was still in Scotland.
“Damn,” Mia murmured.
“She didn’t need a refill, did she?” I asked.
Joni shook her head, her eyes sad.
“I’ve had sex in that truck,” Mia said, obviously trying to turn the conversation away from Rachel’s heartache.
“With Colt or someone else?” Brooklyn asked.
“Just Colt,” Mia assured her. “I think Scarlett was actually conceived in that truck.”
