“How does your ankle feel?” I asked.

“Never better,” he said with a lazy grin. He sank a bit deeper into the water. “I think this is just the sort of therapy I might regularly need to get it to heal properly, you know?”

I laughed. “Is that so?”

Landon nodded. “Yeah, definitely.”

I leaned over and kissed him.

“We’ll just have to schedule you in so we can get that ankle better ASAP.”

“Or it can take a long time to heal. You never know how bad the injury may be. We should probably do multiple sessions over a long period of time to really make sure we get it right.”

I giggled. “I’ll just have to take one for the team.” I kissed him.

“So selfless of you,” Landon murmured and kissed me again.

LANDON

Thenextcoupleofweeks were pure bliss. I saw Rebecca after work almost every night. Now that she was back on day shifts, even though we spent almost every waking hour together, I couldn’t get enough of her.

When I wasn’t with her, I missed her.

The more I got to know her, the more I knew this was the woman I needed in my life. Two weeks after our first date—and a few more dates at her place and mine, watching movies, cooking dinner together, talking, andnottalking—I’d asked her to be my girlfriend. I was old school that way.

She’d blushed and told me she would love to.

I loved calling her my girlfriend.

It was time to make things more official with the other people in my life. I didn’t want to have to hide her forever, but our age gap was a touchy topic, and the Cavaliers had this ridiculous thing where they cared about bloodlines and family money.

For a while, I’d thought it was why Brad hadn’t made a move on Rebecca. I knew now it was because he didn’t like her that way, which suited me just fine, but Brad and I were the exception when it came to the Cavaliers and their stupid rules.

When I walked into the bar at the Cavaliers, it was busy. Everyone was there. It was a Friday after work, and everyone wanted to have a drink and wind down after a long, hard week.

“Look who’s back on his feet,” Archie said when I walked in.

I grinned and looked down. I’d finally been able to take off the moon boot and get back to a normal life.

“Yeah, I’m not going to do anything stupid anytime soon,” I said.

I glanced at Aaron, who only chuckled and shook his head.

“I’m going to get a drink,” I said after making small talk with some of the guys.

Ted and Elias sat together at the bar, talking. I ordered a whiskey and joined them.

“You look sour,” I said to Elias after greeting them both. Elias had a pinched face and dark eyes, and when he was in a shitty mood, his features became so much more pronounced.

“Gunner won’t listen to me,” he said. “I keep telling him to look at the bigger picture, but he doesn’t give a shit about the company and our legacy.”

I glanced at Ted, who just shrugged.

“What will it take for him to figure out what this all really means? He’s set on throwing it all away.”

“Does he want to quit the company?” I asked.
