Not now that I finally had them back in my life.

HALEY
Iwantedtorushinto Tyson’s arms when he rolled into my driveway as the stars were starting to shine, but I was still too angry.
Pictures of our daughter were circulating online, and I had no clue what to do about it. I had called Bret over in a panic, and the panic had only dulled slightly since then.
Flashbacks to my own childhood had been racing through my mind, and I didn’t know how to make this better. Trinity’s picture was posted beside Tyson’s in more than one article.
“I’m going to murder you,” I said as I walked outside to meet him on the front porch. I closed the door softly behind me, knowing that Trinity was inside and asleep. “You told me this wouldn’t happen.”
“I don’t know who that woman was,” he said as he took a step closer to me. When he reached for me, I took a step back. “But I told her I had a girlfriend and to get lost.”
“You think I’m upset about some woman trying to sink her claws into you?” I asked, scoffing as I crossed my arms. “You’ve got to be kidding.”
“No?”
I shook my head. “There are pictures of Trinity online, Tyson. Pictures of our daughter next to snaps of you. I didn’t think much of the paparazzi in town when they showed up at the clinic and took pictures of me, but those are pictures of our daughter at preschool!”
His hands tightened into fists, as his jaw clenched. “Don’t worry about it, okay?” I’m going to take care of this. I’ll get Camille to start making some calls and get all of this dealt with.”
“How are you going to deal with this, Ty?” I asked, collapsing into his arms as he hugged me. “How?”
“I’m going to call Camille, and she’ll start running PR. She’s the best in the business, okay? She’ll get everything looked after.”
“You promised that you would keep this kind of thing from happening,” I said as I held onto him. It felt like he was the only thing keeping me afloat as the current tried to drag me away.
“I know I did. I thought the security team I put in place would be enough.”
“I got another letter too. Trinity was mentioned in it and so were you. You’re both being threatened.”
“Drew called in a favor. There’s an FBI agent in town. We’re going to get this dealt with as soon as we can.”
His hands ran up and down my back, but it didn’t help to soothe the constricted feeling in my chest.
“You should have changed before coming here,” I said, laughing a little as I stepped back and got a look at the tux he was wearing.
“You called me and said that you needed me to come home. I had already wasted enough time at the charity event. I wasn’t going to waste anymore by getting changed and then coming out here.”
“I love you,” I said, pulling him into a tight hug again. I inhaled the scent of his spicy cologne and tried to take a deep breath.
Now that he was here, everything was going to be okay. Tyson wasn’t going to let anybody or anything hurt us.
When I was younger, I had seen his protective nature as a hindrance at times. I had walked into a room while he was arguing with my mother more than once. There was one time he had driven her to rehab on his own without telling anyone where he was taking her.
Tyson had a habit of walking into my life and taking control of what worried me the most.
“I don’t think it’s safe for you to stay here alone anymore,” he said, his voice low. “I want you and Trinity to come live with me. It doesn’t have to be forever, but I think you’d be safest with me.”
I swallowed hard and nodded. I didn’t want to be without him anymore.
“Just for tonight, though. I don’t want to uproot Trinity any more than we have to.”
He nodded. “Just for tonight. We can talk about everything else in the morning.”
“I’ve missed you so much,” I said, hugging him tighter.
