Please be okay.

Please be okay.

She doesn’t even stir.

If she’s not okay, I don’t know what I’m going to do.

CHAPTER26

Aurora

Something constantly beepsin the back of my mind. It’s so damn annoying. But maybe it’s not inside my head as it seems. Maybe it’s coming from somewhere else.

I crack my eyes open, but the strong light above my head blinds me. What is happening? Where am I?

And then it all comes rushing back. I went to save Julia. My father caught me. He said he had plans for me, and then his men drugged me.

It was so stupid to go out there like that, but I hope Julia is fine. I’ll have to find a way to escape. To save my baby and myself. Luca is going to be so mad at me for not finding a way to get in touch with him.

I shift my arm. My wrists aren’t tied up.

What’s going on? I try to squint at my arm.

“Aurora!” The sound of a familiar voice makes me lift my gaze.

“Luca?” I stare at him in shock.

Am I hallucinating? Is this real?

He gets up from his chair and races to me. His hand grasps mine, and I almost cry out from happiness because his touch is real, which means that he is real too.

“How are you feeling?” he asks softly, caressing my cheek.

“I don’t know. Okay, I guess.” A little disoriented.

Luca leans in and brushes his lips against mine.

I blink at the room.

“Are we in a hospital?” I ask.

“Yeah. I couldn’t wake you up, and I needed to know if everything was okay. It was just a very strong sedative that you were given. The baby is fine.” He smiles at me.

Relief surges through me. “What about Julia? Do you know anything about her?”

“She’s fine. Her parents took her to a hospital too. She has a concussion, a cracked rib, and a lot of bruises, but she’ll be okay.”

I close my eyes for a moment. “I can’t believe it all worked out.”

“I’m sorry,” he says, lowering his gaze. “I shouldn’t have left you alone. I wasn’t thinking. I thought you’d be safe.”

“It’s not your fault. I should’ve found a way to contact you or ask someone else for help, but the person who messaged me seemed to know too much, and I just... I don’t know. I couldn’t abandon Julia.”

“I know. That’s what I love about you. You’re a good person,” he says. “You’re willing to fight for those you care about, no matter the risks.”

“I guess we have that in common. How did you find me? What happened to my father? Is he still alive?”

“I don’t know. My cousin should be taking care of him. I made a deal with Marya. She sent me your location and Marcello’s location. I couldn’t be in two places at once. Someone will call eventually with the news about him.”
