Actually, it would all be perfect if it weren’t for Marcello and Marya. Those two just love to suck the happiness out of everything. It’s hard to focus on any other plans when they are always lurking in the back of my mind.

It’s frustrating that I still haven’t found a way to get to them. Ever since Alessandro’s assassin took out Cole Jr, things have gone quiet. Annoyingly quiet. Even Cole seems to have disappeared into thin air, maybe out of fear that he’s the next one to die.

But I don’t like any of what’s happening. Marcello is plotting something, and we have no idea what it is. He’ll want to make sure we don’t find his next partner, and that’s not good at all.

There are rumors of something happening at Marcello’s home, wherever the hell it is, but no one can find any solid information.

I pull Aurora closer to me as we watch some kind of TV show that she likes. She laughs, and it’s such a wonderful sound. She’s way more relaxed than she’s ever been. Less shy. It’s as if she’s finally growing into the person she was always supposed to be.

A knock sounds on the door, and I furrow my brow. Everyone knows not to disturb me when I’m with Aurora, unless it’s something very, very important.

“Come in,” I say.

Theo opens the door. “We need to talk. It’s urgent.”

“Okay.”

Aurora pouts as she pulls away from me. “Will you come back quickly?”

“I will. You know I can’t stand to be away from you, not even for a second.” I press my lips against hers.

It’s so hard to leave her when she looks at me through her eyelashes and grins at me, but I need to see what’s up. The sooner we get rid of Marcello and Marya, the sooner I can start thinking about finding a home and focus on Aurora and the baby.

“What’s up?” I say when I find Theo in the room that serves as my office.

“We got another message from Marya.”

I groan. “So that particular security issue still hasn’t been solved like the tech team promised?”

“Um, apparently not. You’ll want to see the message.” He offers me his phone.

I frown at the screen.

Nice Trojan horse you got. :)

Oh, for fuck’s sake. She even put an emoji. What the fuck?

“She’s trying to mess with our heads,” I say. “I guess she’s talking about the way she’s sending these messages. We need to find whatever virus or whatever the hell it is that she’s using.”

Theo is about to slip his phone back into his pocket when it buzzes. I start for the door, but his loud gasp stops me.

I turn to face him and he just hands me his phone back. My eyes go wide.

“What is this?” I ask.

It’s an image of a college ID of a certain Julia Easton. I swipe to the next photo and see the information about her parents, who both appear to be working for Marcello Valentino.

“How did you get this?” I breathe.

It’s Aurora’s Julia.

Aurora’s friend. I’m sure of it.

“It just got sent to us the same way that message was sent.”

“So it’s Marya.” I grind my teeth. “She knows about Aurora. Somehow, she knows about her! How is that fucking possible?”

“But do you see what she sent?” Theo’s eyes are wide. “Julia is heavily connected to Marcello! And she’s Aurora’s friend! Aurora is the Trojan horse Marya is talking about!”
