“Yeah, because that’s going to work out so fucking well,” Alessandro says.

“Why wouldn’t it work?” Brando meets his brother’s gaze.

“Because we can’t hide right under Marcello’s nose for days or maybe even weeks!”

“Who says we can’t? Why don’t we try?”

“Try? And then what happens if we fail, huh?”

Brando furrows his brow.

“There’s also another problem. Marya,” I say. “And who knows if Marcello is working with someone else too.”

“Wait,” Brando says, “do you think Marcello has more daughters? What if he’s going to marry them all off and then come at us with a whole group of allies?”

“It would make sense that he wants three big partners,” Alessandro says. “Because there’s three of us.”

“I didn’t want you to get involved in this,” I say. “This is my mess.”

“And we’re your cousins,” Alessandro says. “We’re not leaving you alone to fight Marcello.”

“But you have your families to think about. There are other enemies who—”

“We’re family,” Brando says.

“We’ll defeat Marcello together.” Alessandro’s voice is full of confidence and certainty.

“I thought you didn’t like me.” I look at Brando.

“I didn’t. You were a brat. But you’ve grown on me. Like fungus.” He grins.

I roll my eyes at him. “All right, then. We’ll fight Marcello together.”

“I heard Cole contacted you before agreeing to Marcello’s deal.” Alessandro eyes me carefully.

“Theo?” I ask, because who else would mention something like that?

Alessandro nods. “He didn’t say what Cole wanted, though.”

“He offered to become my ally, but only if I married his daughter.”

Alessandro’s eyebrows shoot up. “And you didn’t consider his offer?”

“No.”

“You could’ve at least met with her. You never know—”

“I know I don’t want her, and she doesn’t want me.”

“But she’s going to marry someone else, and now Marcello will be the one to decide who it’ll be. I’m sure you know Cole is going to become his puppet. Marcello is going to get another ally through Cole, and Cole’s daughter will be worse off than if she married you.”

“Says the guy who didn’t want an arranged marriage either and married for love.”

“I know, and I get it, trust me. But in this situation, if I didn’t have Scarlett, I—”

“Leave him alone, brother,” Brando says. “Can’t you see it?”

“See what?” Alessandro frowns at him.
