“You’re welcome. Enjoy your night, guys. I love you both.”
“Do you need help to the car?” I step forward, ready to hold a hand or two or carry somebody.
“Nope, we got it. Right, guys?” She looks down at the older kids.
“Right!” Ophelia and Leo answer together.
I’m shrouded in awe as Lochlyn wraps his arms around me and we watch our oldest two children flank Lorelei and take her hands in theirs.
Spinning to face Lochlyn, he has the gentlest of smiles on his face. “Did I ever tell you that you’re amazing, husband of mine?”
“You have. And I’m pretty sure I always counter that you’re the amazing one. And I still hold true to that fact.” He brushes some hair behind my ear as his other hand presses against my lower back to pull me closer to him. “I’m still so in love with you, Shay. It’s gotten harder to show you, to have the time to ourselves, to beus. I needed to do something special for you.”
Pushing up on my toes, I loop my hands to the back of his head and connect my lips with his. Putting his hands under my thighs, he lifts me as his tongue sweeps across mine. He walks backward until he reaches his chair, using his foot to kick it toward him and sitting, pulling me down on his lap, my legs on either side of his.
Grabbing his collar in two hands, I pull him against me. I’m desperate for him. I need the air in his lungs. I need to feel his warm skin against mine. I need to feel him inside of me.
As his palms are sliding up my shirt, there’s a loud cheer behind the door, pulling our attention. Panting, we look at the door, frozen how we were, minus being lip locked. My lips feel swollen and bee stung, my chin raw and scratched.
Dropping my forehead to his, I sigh. “So, what exactly is keeping anybody from coming in here?”
“You know those people we pay very well? I asked them to be sure to block the door a little.”
When the door bangs, Lochlyn growls a little, his mouth ticking down on one side. While the office may be all the way to the back of the building, we'd never hear somebody heading our way.
Sliding his hands up and down my back and over my thighs, he repeats the circuit while he stares into my eyes. I keep my fingers planted against his chest, reveling in his racing heartbeat. I love that we still feel giddy and excited around each other, racing hearts and hormones.
“You know I want nothing more than to tear all of your clothes off right now…”
“But it’s probably not the best idea.” I complete his thought seamlessly.
“Yeah.”
“That’s okay. We have all night, right?”
“We certainly do.” The corners of his lips curl up as the devilish look he used to get encroaches. It’s been a long time since I've seen it.
“What happened to Jenna?”
“I sent her home.”“We had promised to pay her for the whole night.” Guilt wraps around my chest at not giving her what we agreed upon. She does a lot. wrangling four kids.
“Don't worry, she got something better out of the deal.”
“You know, my friends think I’m crazy letting you around her.” I rest my forearms against his chest and link my fingers behind his neck.
“Well, you can tell them that I’m not the one they need to worry about.”
My brow knits together. “Did something happen?”
“Oh, not at all. It’s just that she'd be more likely to be interested in you than in me.”
My eyes widen into saucers. “I’m sorry, say that again.”
He chuckles as he says, “Oh yeah. I told her because I was sending her home early, I'd let her pick tickets to any upcoming concert, give her a night off to enjoy the show. She said hergirlfriendlovesThe Paper Planes.”
“Okay, so she said her girlfriend. That could just be a close friend.” I’ve certainly referred to Chelsea as a girlfriend.
“I thought the same thing until she got picked up tonight and started kissing the girl who came to get her.”
