“He gets no say. He wasn’t here like he was supposed to be, so he doesn’t get to like or dislike.”

“Chelsea, it’s still his house, his home. He should like the furniture he has in it.”

“If he wanted a say about what goes into it, then he should have been here to help decide.”

On some level, I know she’s right. He shouldn’t get to complain if he’s not here. It’d be one thing if I told him I wanted to go without him; it’s another when he ditches me. I know it’s for work, but still.

After flagging down an employee, we add the couch to the order. I try not to look at the total damage as I sign my name on the several dotted lines. Delivery will be within the next week or two, but may be more than one delivery, so we get the items sooner.

“Okay, now that that’s done, I’m taking you for a coffee.” Chelsea loops her arm through mine as we step out into the bright sunshine.

“Why areyoutakingmefor a coffee? You came to help me, so shouldn’t I treat you?”

“You just dropped a few thousand of Lochlyn’s dollars and I know it’s killing you inside. Let me treat you this time and you can take me next time.”

“Ugh, deal.” She’s right. Even I couldn’t justify spending ten more dollars on coffees.

We grab the drinks to go so that I can get home, as Lochlyn will hopefully be back from whatever supposed catastrophe he avoided.

Chapter 3

“There’saconcertoutin Syracuse tonight. I’m going to see if I can sign this new band to the firm. You should come! I think you’ll like their music. And I miss you.”

Between Lochlyn’s job and my classes, we’ve been spending almost no time together.

“That sounds fun. I’d love to.”

He loops his arm around my waist and yanks me against me. “Can you wear that shirt you wore to the concert years ago? You know I love that one?”

His nose runs along my neck, and shivers roll through my body. Not only do I remember his reaction to the shirt, but the incredible sex we had that night. Desire takes over and need settles in my core.

“I suppose. But you’ll have to show me how much you love it?”

“Before or after?”

“Both?”

A squeal pulls from my chest as he throws me over his shoulder, smacking my ass and running up the stairs. I giggle the whole way. This fun and carefree behavior is rare to see these days, and I’ve missed every second. We don’t have time to be silly anymore, it seems.

I bounce when I hit the bed, curling in on myself in a fit of giggles when Lochlyn jumps onto the bed, bouncing me higher, and I laugh harder.

“It’s good to hear your laugh again, baby girl. It’s been missing for a while.” He’s resting over me, his weight supported on his forearms as he tucks a curl behind my ear.

“Things haven’t been as fun lately.”

“I know. I’m sorry.”

“It’s okay. I just miss you when you’re gone.” I swirl my finger along his collarbone, so he knows I mean in more ways than one, because I do miss every part of him.

“I miss you too.” His lips are right on mine, but he doesn’t connect them. Instead, he gently exhales against my mouth and smirks until I hook a hand around his neck and pull him down on top of me.

His mouth crashes onto mine and his tongue dives into my mouth. There’s a ferocity in his kiss, his movements. His hips dip against mine as he pulls my lower lip between his teeth.

My head tips back, and I arch against him. He takes the opportunity and unhooks my bra through my shirt with a flick of his wrist.

In the next second, his hands are diving under my shirt and down my pants.

“More. Please. I need more, Loch.” My palms slip under his top and up his rippled chest. Ineedhis scorching skin against mine.
