Nick
Ioverheard Jax asking Axel about Opal being sick. What the hell did he mean by that? What kind of sick was she? Did she have the flu or a cold? What the hell was he talking about?
I lasted until six am then I called her. “Hello.” She sounded okay to me.
“Tell me what Jax meant when he said you might be sick?”
“There is nothing wrong with me. My sisters jump to conclusions when there isn’t anything wrong. I don’t know why Amber told Jax anything. But even if I was sick, why would I tell you?”
“Are you going to the doctor?”
“Goodbye, Nick.”
She hung up on me. I called her back.
“Nick, I’m driving.”
“This early in the morning; where are you going? I bet you didn’t get any sleep last night.”
“I slept a couple of hours. Goodbye.”
I called her back. “Where are you going?”
“I have court at nine.”
“You sure do a lot of lawyer work for someone who said she isn’t a lawyer anymore.”
“I’m going to court for Luca. I’m getting him out of prison today.”
“He gets to come home with us,” Jenna said, she was sitting right next to me, and the car phone was on.
“I’m so happy for you, Jenna.”
“I’m happy too, goodbye.” I heard Opal chuckle as she hung up the phone.
I couldn’t get Opal off my mind. She belonged to me. I would make sure she knew it too. What the hell am I thinking? I’m not getting into a serious relationship with Opal or anyone. I tried that once, and we all know how that ended. Maybe I should back off. Hell no, I’m not backing off. I’ll break his fingers if I see that guy touch her lower back again. Or any part of her body. I am the only man who can touch her lower back. Okay, her family can, but that’s it.
I couldn’t sit around and daydream all day. I was taking Julia to school today. She had already met a bunch of kids she knew that went to her school. Thanks to my buddies who have children she already played with.
After I dropped her off at school, I stopped at the bread shop and bought some fresh bread. Tina had just taken it out of the oven. I planned this conversation out in my head. Opal might not want to tell me anything, but there were others around that might let something slip.
“Good morning, Tina. I bet you are thrilled about Jeff being found. What is he doing today?”
“He went to visit our parents.”
“Do you know if Opal is feeling better today? I talked to her but didn’t get around to asking her how she was doing.”
“I know you are concerned about Opal, but I would never discuss her with someone who made her cry.”
“I made her cry?”
“What? Forget I said that. I have some bread I have to take out of the oven.”
“Stop right where you are. Why do you say I made Opal cry?”
“Because she was upset when she saw your arm bleeding, but I think that you not wanting anyone to see the two of you together was what made her cry.”
