“Pull over!” Luca shouted. I pulled over and rested my head on the steering wheel. “Get out. I’ll drive. We’ll go to the hospital. I sat there wondering how Nick was doing, and then I called his buddies. The first one I called was Angel.

“Hi, do you know how Nick is doing?”

“I’m on my way to the hospital right now. Kash said that he had lost a lot of blood. You can call Jax or Asher. They’re at the hospital.”

“Thank you. I will do that. Thanks Angel.” I called Jax.

“Hey, Opal, what’s going on?”

“I want to know how Nick is doing?”

“We don’t know anything yet. Nick is in surgery. If you call back in an hour, we’ll probably know something by then.”

“Thanks, Jax.”

“Wait, are you okay? Amber told me you were sick.”

“I’m fine. I’m coming to the hospital.”

“I thought you were out of town?”

“I am, but Luca is driving for me, so I’m heading back now.”

“Why, do you and Nick have a thing?”

“How old am I?”

“Sorry, sweetie. I’ll see you when you get here.”

I looked at Luca, “So are you going to join Seal Security since you are out and free?”

He smirked. “So this is your idea of getting your mind off the things at hand? Okay, I’ll indulge you. Yes, not until I take care of Sammy.”

I looked in the back seat, and Jenna was sleeping. “Everything is so confusing for Jenna. She misses Samantha so much.”

“I know. I’m going to take care of everything.”

“I can’t believe Nick would let himself get stabbed. That is so not like him to be so careless. The guy was robbing a woman, for crying out loud. He must have noticed he was dangerous.” An hour later, we pulled into the hospital parking lot. “You can go to my house if you want.”

“I’ll go there and arrange for a rental car. Then Jenna can get her belongings. I want to thank you for everything. Jeff and I would still be in prison if you hadn’t helped us.”

“If you need anything, call me. I have to get in there and see how Nick is. I’m going to keep in touch.”

I walked into the hospital and the first person I saw was Ashley, walking down the hall.

“Opal, what are you doing here?”

“I came to see how Nick was doing. Do you know anything?”

“He’s still in surgery. I can’t believe that man was on the pier robbing a woman. The police caught him, and if Nick dies, he will be charged with homicide.”

My legs buckled, and Ashley cried out as I fainted. Asher came around the corner and carried me to a chair, even though I had already gotten up. “What the hell is wrong with you? I’m calling Ruby.”

“I’m fine. Ashley just startled me when she said that if Nick died, they would charge that man with murder. I didn’t know his injury was so severe.”

Asher looked at me. His hands were on his hip. I looked over at Ashley whose eyes were huge as she watched me. Asher stood straight. “I didn’t know you knew Nick that well.”

“I went to Italy and helped him get Julia from her grandparents.”
