And that launched me into orbit.

I increased my speed. The metal bedframe scraped the floor and thumped. It made the experience more exciting when paired with Brynne’s mewling.

“I love you, Brynne.” I sealed our lips and kissed her through my release.

Minefloated through my head.

Brynne.

My baby.

We’d be a family, and I would protect them with my life.

Nobody better dare to harm what’smine.

A major shitshow had unfolded at the station. The fucking pricks had taken my woman to a different room. Keeping Tina from me fueled my rage and made me a crazy man.

But I knew the games these assholes played. How they manipulated and lied to get their way. They were using Tina to try and make me talk. I nearly caved too. Fuck, I was worried about my wife and the baby in her stomach. I needed to protect them in any way I could.

As it turned out, I didn’t have to do anything dramatic. Didn’t need to sell my soul to the devil or bend to the detective’s will.

No, Copper had arrived like a circus freak and stolen every pig’s attention in the police department when he claimed he was the guy they were looking for.

I seethed at the carrot-top moron. “Storm will beat your ass for getting involved.”

“Yeah.” He crossed his arms over his chest with a stoic expression. “But not for a few years… at the very least.”

“Only a few, if you’re lucky. You assaulted an officer.” I snorted at the memory of Copper storming into the station and announcing he was turning himself in—the dumb fuck.

A young deputy had made the mistake of laughing at Copper. What had the ginger-haired biker done when no one had taken him seriously? He punched the guy in the face and swiped his gun out of the holster. Every officer in the building pulled their weapons, and Copper had promptly been arrested.

Fuck, I couldn’t make this shit up.

“I did what needed to be done. I protected my brother.”

“Jesus Christ, that’s not how we do it. You don’t have to take the fall.” Espada paced in the holding cell with sweat dripping down the sides of his face. He clenched his jaw and fisted his hands. Man, I hoped he kept his cool.

“I’m not worried.Theyneed time to get away. I gave it to them.” Copper held his own against Espada. I was proud of him.

But he didn’t know Espada had spent time in the can before joining KLMC. Not long, six to nine months, long enough to fuck him up to the point that he never talked about prison. Storm and I had suspected the worst had happened as it had to other men.

Of course, we had no proof or confirmation Quinton Espada had been assaulted… It was just a sick feeling I had in the pit of my stomach.

“Then you’re a fucking idiot.” Our brother needed to get released before he lost his shit.

“I don’t see it that way. I’m a hero.” Copper reclined on the bench and closed his eyes.

“I gotta get out.” Cash tugged on the bars. “My baby girl is due in October.”

“She has her mother who can care for her if you do time,” I told him.

“Who? Rachel?” He laughed and shook his head. “She hates the idea of being a mom. Hates me even more for knocking her up. I don’t like her much either. She had caught me when I was drunk and gave good head.”

“Actions have consequences, mijo,” Espada muttered from the corner.
