“You seem angry.”
“I am.”
Whoa, okay. “Why?”
“Because he’s supposed to wait for me.”
“What do you mean?” I had an inkling of what she meant, but I wanted her to confirm my suspicions.
“Wait for me to be old enough to be his girlfriend.”
Oh boy. “He’s a lot older than you, you know. I don’t think Raul and mom will approve.”
“I know. That’s why he’s supposed to wait until I’m old enough.”
“That’s asking a lot from a guy his age. He’s supposed to be dating and having fun until he finds the one. And you know how these bikers are.” I bobbed my head, hoping she would change her tune. He was ten years older than her. It would never happen.
“So I’ll sabotage all his relationships.” She stood from her chair. “He’s mine.” And with an air of indignation, she stormed off.
She’s reading too many romance books, I think.
I watched Sadie quietly eating. There was a lot of activity in the bar, but I kept my butt planted to keep an eye on Sadie like I told Jaynee.
But it was okay.
I observed my new family talking and laughing.
Some were playing billiards. Others were drinking at the bar.
Ava and Ire were with Boxer and Snow. The four were very close, like best friends, which showed when they were together.
Dodge chased little Dante around while Emilee fed their baby, Demi.
This was my family and I couldn’t be happier about it.
“Bonita, why are you alone, baby?” Joseph sat in Jaynee’s chair.
“I’m not alone. I’m with Sadie and there’s family all around.” I smiled at him.
“Yeah, I’m here.” Sadie scooted out of her seat. “I’m going to throw my plate away, Auntie Bonita.” She skipped away.
I pressed my hand against my chest. “Did you hear that? I’m Auntie Bonita. I love it.”
“If you could see how happy you look right now. You’re glowing, Bonita.”
“Because I love my new family… And my husband.”

Labor Day weekend had arrived, which meant Ire and Ava’s wedding. It was bittersweet, too. Summer was officially over, and it was time to return to the daily grind of working and school.
My siblings were happy to return to school and hang out with their friends. I was looking forward to hunting season and spending the holidays with my Bonita. Tina had already started Christmas shopping, excited over having her daughter with her again.
“It was a beautiful wedding,” Brynne sighed dreamily. “Ava was the most beautiful bride. It was so sweet how she gently wiped a tear off Ire’s cheek when he said his vows.”
“His emotions were a shocker.” But I understood his feelings. He and Ava had been through a lot together, her sexual assault and his amnesia. They came through it stronger. My brother was finally getting everything he wanted. I was damn happy for him.
