I’m coming, princess.
Piper was at work when I parked the bus beside the barn, so I’d been in the living room with her family.
It hadn’t been all that bad. Spectre wasn’t around; still gone on a road trip.
“You sure about this?” Cobra asked.
“Of course he is.” Lady M patted my knee.
“I’m sure I want to be with Piper. No, I’m not sure I can be a biker.”
“You don’t have to be a biker.” Lady M scowled at her sons. “Right?”
“It would help things if you were a biker,” Cobra said, not backing down.
Lady M let out a frustrated sigh.
“I’ll try it out and see how it goes.” I wouldn’t commit to anything more.
“Fine.” Cobra peered behind me. “Here she comes.”
I stood and went to the door. My chest tightened at the sight of her. Just like the first time, her siren song possessed my soul.
“Well, you just going to stand there.” Cobra jerked his head to leave.
“Give him a second. This is important.” Lady M squeezed my arm. “Just tell her how you feel and why you’re here. She’s missed you too.”
“Thanks.” I exited the house and went down the porch’s steps.
Piper froze on the walkway when she saw me.
“Hey, how’s it going?” I asked like an idiot. I should’ve planned my words better.
She tilted her head. “Why are you here?” She glanced at the bus. “Are the Triads performing at the casino again? Cobra hadn’t mentioned it.”
“No, it’s just me.” I stepped toward her.
“Why?” She crossed her arms over her chest.
“Because I’ve been a fool and here to see if you’ll give me another shot.”
“Which of my brothers put you up to this? I swear, I will kick them in the balls for interfering in my life again.” My God, her fire turned me on.
“Princess, I’m here on my own.”
“I don’t believe you. What do you know?” She blinked back tears.
“I don’t know anything. Has something happened? Are you okay?” I put my hands on her shoulders and tried to read her.
“Why are you really here?”
“Piper, I fucked up. I’m sorry, I freaked. But I’m here to try again and make it up to you.”
“You broke my heart, Russell. You didn’t even give us a chance to make it work. How can I trust you?”
I bobbed my head. “I understand.”
“You do?”
