“Son of a bitch!” Spectre hissed.
“I’m going, and don’t either of you try to stop me.” I leaned against the wall and crossed my arms over my chest.
“Piper means something to you, doesn’t she?” Hustler asked.
“Yes.”
“I call bullshit,” Spectre muttered. “He fucked her, and now he thinks he owns her. Over my dead body.” His fist flew at me, but I ducked before he connected with my face.
“Enough.” Hustler slammed him against the wall. “Back the fuck off.” He turned toward me. “I don’t know you well enough to make a decision here, but I can tell you care about my sister. That’s good enough for me.”
“Thanks.”
“But!” He raised his hand. “If you hurt her in any way, I will kill you. You better respect her decisions if she doesn’t want to see you.”
“Understood.”
“Lady M and Dad will never approve.” Spectre shook his head with a smug expression. “Druggies aren’t allowed in our family.”
“I’m clean, asshole.” I bit down on my back molars, done with his constant slandering. He didn’t know me, but he wasn’t wrong for protecting his sister. I wasn’t good for her, but I couldn’t stay away.
The elevator opened as Spectre, and I stared each other down.
“Come on.” Hustler jerked his head to follow.
I had no idea what I’d do at the hospital. I wasn’t a superhero or a rockstar, just an average drummer and a recovering addict.
I wasn’t going to save the day.
The only reason I was tagging along was to… Hell, I didn’t know why I was going. I only knew I needed to be there for Piper since I hadn’t been there for my younger sister when she needed me most.

Piper
I splayed my naked body across Russell’s hot and sweaty muscular form. Every time we had sex, it was exhilarating and exhausting. I could only manage to go at it once before needing to rest; it was that intense.
He glided the tips of his fingers up and down my spine.
“I wish we could be like this always.” I exhaled a sated breath, my pussy tingling with arousal. I’d be ready to go a second time shortly.
“We can if you’d just accept my proposal.”
Proposal?
“What do you mean?” I was sure he hadn’t asked me to marry him while resting on him with my eyes closed.
“You’re all I’ve ever wanted, Piper.”
I smiled.
“Do you want me?”
The wordyeswouldn’t leave my lips. It was like my mouth was sealed shut. I couldn’t even nod my reply.
“Piper? Do you hear me?” He shook my shoulder. “Answer me. Do you want me.”
Again, no matter how hard I tried, my mouth wouldn’t open. Neither would my eyes. What was happening to me?
