This time we weren’t there for Micah. His brother Cobra had news about my biological parents. I knew some guy was searching DNA databases to see if they could find any connections. Apparently, the guy with the road name had found not one but two people who matched me. And they were in Fargo.
“Are you okay?” Micah asked.
“Not really. I’m not sure I’m ready for this.”
“Totally understandable.”
“You don’t know anything?”
“No, Cobra wanted to tell us in person.”
“Don’t you think that’s weird?”
“Yeah.” He turned onto the dirt road leading toward the farmhouse. I worried he might flip out again. He hadn’t talked to Ben and Lady M. This would be the first time he saw them, but he said he was ready. “I’m here for you, baby.” He took my hand and kissed it.
“Thank you. I don’t think I could do this without you.”
“I’m sure you couldn’t,” he said teasingly. “Like I can’t do the hard stuff without you.”
“We’re so perfect for each other.” Although, we were taking things slow. There was no rush. We were in this relationship for the long haul, and we sure didn’t need titles like husband and wife.
Marriage wasn’t the be-all and end-all for either of us. We only wanted to be together. Kids weren’t even something we talked about. Why would we? I was still so young, and Micah had a lot to work through regarding his birth mom. A kid might complicate things.
“Well, are you ready?”
I nodded, noticing the bikers on the porch. I hadn’t seen them before.
We got out of the truck. Micah took my hand, and we went up the stairs. The two men stared at me funny.
“Yo, Copter. Gunner. How’s it going.” Micah jerked his chin at them. “Didn’t know you’d be here.”
The screen door opened, and Cobra exited. “Bone. Good to see you, brother.” He hugged Micah, keeping his eyes on me. “Destiny, how are you?”
“Nervous.” I forced a smile.
“Well, I won’t drag this out.” He went by the two men, and my heart raced. “This is Easton and Mason Goode, your older brothers.”
“You’re shitting me,” Micah said with a look of befuddlement.
“I remember the day you were born, and the midwife said you died.” Easton embraced me. “Mama cried for days… for years. Mason was too young to remember.”
I stared at the two men before me. Both were handsome with blue eyes just like mine. I turned toward Micah. “I can’t believe this.”
“Are your parents alive?” I asked hesitantly.
“Yeah, ourparents are alive. And they can’t wait to meet you.” Mason issued me a small smile.
“Where do they live?”
“On the West Coast,” Easton said.
“Looks like you’re going on a trip.” Micah hugged me.
“I… I don’t know.”
“Cobra! Cobra!” Lady M came running out of the house. “Get to the hospital!”
“What happened?” Micah asked.
