“Holy shit.” Micah sat back in the chair and put his hands on his cheeks.
“It was through Ellie that I met Lady M and fell instantly in love.” Ben put his arm around me. “It was love at first sight for me.”
“And me.” I gazed into his wet eyes.
“But you were with Ellie,” Micah said defensively.
“You know how it is in MCs. Ellie was a sweet butt. I never had any intention of making her, my old lady. She was passed around, son.” Ben kept his voice even yet firm.
“When he started chasing after me, Ellie felt betrayed by both of us. She got belligerent and volatile, breaking things around the clubhouse and trying to force her way into his bedroom.”
“So I kicked her out of the club,” Ben told him. “I didn’t want her around after I claimed Margaret.”
“So she was pregnant with me when she left?”
“No. She’d been gone for about a year. I had no idea where she’d gone.” I took a sip of my water and a second to gather my thoughts. “The night of Ben’s twenty-fifth birthday. Ellie returned. We’d had a party for him at the clubhouse. I was so happy to see her, but she wasn’t happy to see me. Or your brother, her first nephew. Abe was eight months old.” My voice droned on, telling Micah about the night he’d been conceived. The memories whirled back with a vengeance…
“Ellie, I’ve missed you. Where’ve you been?” I jiggled Abe on my hip. The lug was crabby being up past his bedtime. I was about to go home to put him to bed and leave the birthday boy with his crew when Ellie entered the building. I wasn’t about to go anywhere now.
“Cute kid. Is he yours?”
I rolled my eyes. She was always a smartass. “Yes. This is Abe, short for Abraham, after my daddy.”
“How nice.” She diverted her eyes, searching the room. “Where’s the birthday boy?”
“Why’d you come back?” My defenses were on high alert. Ellie was off; I knew it was because she was on something. Ben had told me she had done drugs before I came to Fargo. I hadn’t been surprised. Ellie had also used in New Orleans, primarily cocaine.
“Was just in the neighborhood.” She moved toward the bar, and I followed.
Abe grew increasingly restless, and his diaper felt full. I needed to take my baby home, but how could I, with Ellie sniffing after my man?
“There he is! The man of the hour.” Ellie tried to put her arms around Abe, but he slapped her hands away.
“Whatcha doing here?” He took Abe from me, and the baby quieted. Abe adored Ben almost as much as I did.
“Knew you’d be celebrating your birthday and wanted to join in the festivities. Did you miss me?” Ellie teetered on her spikey heels, reaching for a beer on the bar.
“No. Didn’t even think about you once. I want you to get the fuck out of my club.” He jerked his chin at his enforcer. “Get rid of her. I’m taking my wife and son home.”
Ben didn’t give me a chance to say goodbye to Ellie. He’d led me out to the car and took us home. On the one hand, I appreciated his take-charge attitude, but Ellie was my sister. I wanted to be sure she was okay and had somewhere to go.
When we got home, I took Abe straight to his bedroom to change his diaper and put my fussy baby to bed. It hadn’t taken long. He went down easily with a fresh diaper and bottle.
“I’m in bed waiting for you, Lady M,” Ben said in a seductive voice.
“Are you?” I smiled and stripped out of my clothes as I went down the hallway. Discussing Ellie could wait until tomorrow. I preferred celebrating my love’s birthday with him under the sheets.
“Mhm.” He stole my breath away, lying on the covers naked with his cock in hand, gently pumping it.
“Couldn’t wait for me?”
“Nope,” he exaggerated the P with a pop. “Get your fine ass over here.”
“Mom, stop!” Piper shrieked.
“I don’t want to hear about you two having sex.” Micah’s annoyed voice jerked me back to the present.
“Oh. I… I just got lost in my thoughts.” My face heated.
