“Can’t I just kiss my mark?” I did it again and then pulled back. “Go hit your ball, Tiger. You need to get this in the hole if you want a birdie.”
She rolled her eyes and jumped out of the cart. “You doubt my skills. Just watch.”
I planned to watch her for the rest of my life.
CHAPTERTHIRTY-TWO
Alvaro
My pack was stronger than ever, and every day when I opened my eyes, I felt a lightness that had been missing for a long time. After our bonding, we’d had frequent check-ins from both OPS and Pack Health for two months, but they’d finally decided to leave us alone.
Thank fuck, because I was tired of worrying they’d pop up at really inconvenient times, like when I just wanted some alone time with Kara. It would have been hard to have agents tag along on a drive to look at Christmas lights.
Growing up, one of my favorite things to do in the days leading up to Christmas was to pile into the car with my family with Christmas music playing and sip hot chocolate while cruising through neighborhoods all decked out for the holidays.
I put a new blanket in the passenger seat of my car, two travel mugs of hot chocolate in the cupholders, and a container of snickerdoodles on the dash. I’d been able to sneak out of the house for a while and go to Jonathan and Anya’s to bake Kara’s favorite cookies.
“Alvie?” Kara stood at the garage door. “I’m ready to go.”
I turned and grinned at her standing there in red buffalo print pajama pants and a snowman-face hooded sweatshirt. “You look adorable.”
She stepped into the garage and looked me up and down with a smile. “Matching pajamas? Now that I know you’re into this, we’re all going to have them for Christmas.”
“Already have it covered. I just haven’t told them yet.” I gestured to the open passenger door. “Your chariot awaits.”
“Where’s their Christmas spirit?” She climbed into the passenger seat and a purr rumbled from her.
I shut her door and went around the driver’s seat. “It’s there. We just haven’t had much of a reason to celebrate.” The thought saddened me a bit, but as soon as I smelled her delicious scent in my car, I decided not to dwell on the past.
“Are these snickerdoodles?” She grabbed the container and opened it. “Did you bake these?”
“Yes.” I pulled out of the garage and took a sip of my hot chocolate as I waited for the gate to open. “Want to put some Christmas music on?”
She closed the cookies and used the mousepad on the dashboard to find a Christmas pop station. “I wish you guys had a Christmas album.”
“Maybe after our contract is up.” There were a lot of maybes I’d been thinking about lately. “We can record you your own special album.”
“You’d do that for me?” She rested her arm on the center console.
“I’d do anything for you.” I turned out of the driveway before taking her hand and placing it on my thigh. “If you wanted us to record a death metal album, we would.”
“I appreciate the sentiment, but I’m going to have to pass.” She squeezed my leg. “Where are we going exactly?”
“It’s a surprise.” I turned off our street and headed for the freeway. “It’s about a thirty-minute drive unless traffic is crazy.”
She laughed. “Traffic is always crazy here. I don’t think I’ll ever get used to it.”
“Where would you want to live if you could live anywhere?”
“I like the weather here, just not the air and all the people. Somewhere with lots of trees, but not a forest. Maybe the coast? I honestly haven’t thought much about it because it was kind of pointless thinking about.” She moved her hand off my thigh to grab her mug.
“It’s not pointless to think about. Would you still want to live near your sister?”
“I love living near my sister.” Out of the corner of my eye, I could see her examining her pink custom cup with her name and small pictures of her favorite Squishmallows all over it. “Oh, this is so fancy with my name. Did you make this too?”
I snorted. “I can bake, but I can’t say I’m into crafting.”
“That’s too bad. An alpha who crafts is so unbelievably sexy.” She sipped her drink.
