Dominick nodded. “She’s doing okay. Once she was well enough to come home, she never even fought me for Spencer to move back in with her. She’s been going to AA and NA meetings, but I know she struggles. And Spencer’s almost done with his senior year, but Vivian and I told him he could still live with us if he wanted to go to college locally.”
“And tell Delaney what else happened recently,” Rayne said with a smile.
Vivian rolled her eyes and tried to look annoyed, but I could see the happiness in her eyes when she held up her left hand, showing a simple gold band on her ring finger.
My mouth dropped open. “You got married?”
“Dominick and I took a page out of your book and went to the courthouse.”
Dominick grinned. “When I asked her about getting married, she wasn’t very excited about it. But once I asked more questions, I realized she didn’t care for the idea of a wedding, but she would be fine with marriage. I told her once that she was never getting rid of me, and now, she can’t.”
“He’s like a fungus,” Vivian joked.
“You are such a liar,” Rayne said. “You’re head over heels for him.”
Vivian scowled. “Shh.”
Not the least bit intimidated by our friend, Rayne laughed.
“Well, I am happy for you both,” I said to Vivian and Dominick.
“Same,” Preston said. “Congratulations.”
“And speaking of weddings, how is the planning going?” I asked Rayne.
She and Cade were getting married in three months.
She nuzzled Everly’s dark head. “Everything is mostly planned. It’s more of just a countdown now. Cade’s almost busier with the restaurant opening next month than with wedding stuff.”
“Delaney already asked her family to babysit so we can go out that night,” Preston said.
I laughed. “Listen, I’ve already been home for over six weeks. While I love spending time with my children, I miss being around adults. I’ll still be on maternity leave, and I’ll be pumping by then, so I’m drinking.” I looked sadly at my water. Not that I drank very much when I wasn’t pregnant or breastfeeding, but I was the only adult without alcohol in my hands.
Preston tilted his head. “What about me? You seemed to think I was good company last night.”
My face heated. Last week, I had gone to my six-week checkup and gotten the all clear for sex. Preston hadn’t been able to keep his hands off me since. I knew he’d gone weeks without sex, but I was also convinced he’d also wanted to make sure things were different this time between us. I couldn’t love him more for how much he wanted me to know he still cared.
I ignored his sexual innuendo since we were in the company of others. “Yeah, well, you’re just one person. And you go to the office a couple times a week, so you get out more than me.”
Vivian frowned. “Why don’t you do more stuff?” She eyed Preston like he was holding me prisoner or something, but since he was her boss, she managed to keep her mouth shut.
Putting my hand on my husband’s arm, I explained, “Preston encourages me to do stuff, and it’s not like I don’t go anywhere. It’s just that the baby nurses so often that it’s easier to be close to home. And we don’t quite want to start her on bottles yet. But by the restaurant opening, she will be.”
“Mommy, can I watch TV?” Paxton asked.
“Go for it.” I grabbed his empty plate while he jumped down from the counter and ran into the living room.
“He’s adorable,” Rayne said. “You really have a beautiful family, Delaney.”
Preston turned and pulled me into his arms. I leaned back against his chest, and he kissed the top of my head.
“Thank you, Rayne.” I looked up at my handsome husband and smiled. “I like to think so.”
I was a very lucky woman. Shifting my gaze to my friends, I watched them with their partners, and it was obvious I wasn’t the only lucky one.
