Page 80 of The P Arrangement

Paxton was worn out after playing with his cousins and was snuggled up on the couch with Delaney. I told them to start the Disney movie while I made popcorn for us. I was only gone for about ten minutes but found them both sleeping when I returned to the family room.

Delaney’s eyes popped open, as if she sensed me, and she held out the arm that Paxton wasn’t lying on.

Laughing, I handed her the bowl while I sat on the other side of Paxton. “How’d you know I was back?”

“I just know when you’re in the room.” She grinned at me. “Or maybe it was just my nose that smelled the popcorn.”

I put my arm on the back of the couch. “I’d like to think it’s me, but I’m not ruling out the popcorn.” Shifting in my seat, I reached for some of the fluffy movie snack. I glanced down at Paxton. “Should we wake him? He’s going to be up so early tomorrow.”

As if he sensed me talking about him, Paxton dragged his head up. “I up, Daddy.”

“Okay, buddy. Daddy made popcorn. Do you want some?”

“Yeah,” he said and fell back asleep.

Delaney shrugged. “More for us. But you’re right about tomorrow morning.”

“I’ll get up early with him so you can sleep in.”

“I think it’s my turn.”

“Nah. You’re busy creating new life. The least I can do is take care of the one we already made.”

She smiled dreamily at me. “You’re the best.”

I snorted. “We both know that’s not true, but I love you for it anyway.”

Her face grew serious. “We’re not going to give up on each other this time, right?”

She’d asked me this a couple of times already, but if I had to tell her yes every day for the rest of our lives, it would be worth it just to be with her.

I leaned over and kissed her forehead. “You bet your ass I’m not giving up. You try and divorce me again, and I’ll take you for every penny you have,” I teased.

She chuckled. “You wouldn’t, but I love the sentiment.”

“Only lawyers would think that’s a sign of love.” I laughed.

“That’s why we’re perfect for each other.”

“You’re right; we are.”

“I love you too, Pres.”

“I love you too, Laney.”

EPILOGUE TWO

DELANEY

TEN MONTHS LATER

Ding-dong.

With a grin on my face, I yanked the door open to welcome the visitors. “Hey, guys. Come in.”

Rayne, Vivian, Dominick, and Cade stepped inside.

Rayne pulled me into her arms. “Congratulations, Delaney.”
