Party 1: St. James, Preston, III
Party 2: St. James, Delaney
Date of Marriage…
I put the paper down, having seen enough. “It wasn’t a dream?”
The question was mostly rhetorical because the answer was right in front of me.
Preston got down on his haunches and pushed my hair behind my ear.
I had to fight against leaning into his tender touch.
“No, Delaney. It wasn’t a dream,” he said. “We were just incredibly drunk.”
Cade leaned over and looked at what Preston had come to the restaurant to show me just as Beau returned to the table.
Being best friends, they had a silent conversation with a few nods and eye movements.
So, two men I barely knew were about to witness my humiliation.
Tears threatened to spill, and I hated it because I knew it was my hormones. I didn’t want anyone, especially Preston, to think I was weak.
I straightened my spine. “Did you come here to ask me for a divorce? Because you could have waited until we were alone.”
His brows furrowed in a scowl. “What the fuck? No. I said I needed to talk to—” He groaned in frustration and stood. Snatching my hand, he pulled me up. “Does anyone know where we can go to talk privately?”
“Uh…you can use my office,” Cade offered.
Preston nodded. “Perfect.”
No, it wasn’t perfect, but it was better than being in front of a room full of strangers.
Cade jumped out of his chair. “It’s this way.”
Preston tugged on my arm, leading me away.
We were walking in the direction of the front when Rayne and a woman I had never seen before, presumably her sister-in-law, came into the restaurant.
Cade stopped to talk with them, causing Preston and me to wait as well.
Rayne slipped her arm around Cade’s waist, and he kissed her on the forehead and said something to her in a low voice.
But I didn’t have to guess what he had said because Rayne jerked around, and her mouth dropped open when she saw Preston holding my hand.
She’d only met my ex-husband—husband—twice, but he was a hard man to forget. I gazed at him from the corner of my eye. At least, he was in my opinion. I couldn’t believe he was mine again, only to be taken away so soon.
“What’s going on?”
It was Vivian. She and Dominick had walked in now too.
“Delaney and Preston got married in Vegas,” Rayne said.
“We’re becoming a spectacle,” I said under my breath.
“You’re right,” Preston agreed. “Let’s go home.”
