Preston steps back and gets down on one knee. “Delaney St. James, will you do me the honor of being my wife…again?”

“Yes.” I tug on his arm. “Now, get up before someone else walks out of the bar and sees you.”

Preston stands and grabs my hand, and we head—

Music jolted me from my dream, and I groaned into Preston’s chest, which I was pretty sure had my drool on it. Rolling onto my back, I put a hand over my eyes to block out the bright desert sun. My head was killing me, and the ringing from my phone didn’t help.

Preston put his hand on my bare thigh. “Laney, please make it stop.”

My main focus was finding silence again, so I didn’t even think about what I was doing when I picked up my cell. The second I saw it was a video call from my sister, I should have hit Ignore, but since I had killed off a few brain cells from drinking last night, I answered instead.

“Hello,” came out raspy and low, and I cleared my throat. But when I saw the face on the other side of the phone, I couldn’t help but smile.

“Mommy!” Paxton yelled when he saw my face.

I rolled away from Preston so I could rest my cell on the bed. “Hey, baby.”

He looked so cute in his pajamas with his mop of messy hair sticking up all over.

“Mommy misses you so much.” At that moment, I wanted to be home with him so badly, and the feeling almost overwhelmed me.

“I miss you too, Mommy. And Daddy. Where’s Daddy?”

My sister appeared in the frame. “Honey, your daddy is—”

“Hey, buddy. I’m right here,” Preston said, wrapping an arm around my waist.

Natalie gasped.

Oh shit. I was going to hear it now.

“Hi, Daddy! Auntie Natawie says you’re coming home today.”

“That’s right. Mommy and I are both coming home.”

“Yay! I can’t wait.”

“Me neither,” Preston said.

“Same, baby. We’ll see you soon, okay?” I said.

“Okay, bye.” Apparently, Paxton was done with the conversation just like that because he handed the phone to my sister and ran off.

Preston closed his eyes, and there was a possibility he fell back asleep. I couldn’t quite tell because I could only see him in the tiny rectangle on my phone.

Natalie shot me a look that said I had a lot of explaining to do. “Really?”

I could practically picture her tapping her foot.

“Not now, Nat. I have a headache.”

“Surrounded by a bunch of lawyers, you said.” Natalie mocked my words back at me.

I sighed. “Can we please talk about this later?”

“Oh, you bet your ass we’re talking about this later.”

“Delaney is a fucking adult, and she can have sex with whoever she wants.”
