My eyes went to Preston, who stifled a laugh. I was glad to see he was in a good mood again. But it was in the back of my mind that I needed to ask him later what had come over him before Natalie called.

I grinned. “Even if I had, I wouldn’t tell you.”

“What? I’m your sister.”

I laughed. “Nat, you did not call me to ask me about my sex life.”

She sighed. “You’re right. Paxton wants to say hi. Can you do a video call?”

“So, that’s the real reason you asked if I was decent.”

“Yeah.”

“I can do a video call.”

Preston rolled off the bed and nonchalantly strolled to his suitcase and took out some clothes. He was so sexy, and as I watched my name move on such a beautiful body, it took my breath away. I was completely mesmerized by the fact that he had done nothing to cover it up. He wasn’t trying to hide it from me.

Grinning, he turned around and raised an eyebrow.

I frowned.

Silently, he shook his head and pointed to my phone.

I looked down just as Natalie said, “Delaney? Hello? Are you still there?”

Great. Preston had just caught me gawking at his body like a teenager. When I turned his way again, he was laughing at me.

“I’m here. Sorry about that.”

“So, can you talk to Paxton right now, or should I call back later so your mystery man can rail you again?”

Preston threw his head back and covered his mouth so as not to make any noise. Even my sister had figured out over the phone that I had sex brain.

“You’re not funny. Put Paxton on the phone, you brat. I want to talk to someone who actually loves me.”

NINETEEN

DELANEY

Later that afternoon,I was sitting in the back of one of the conference rooms, listening to a presentation by a woman who was a veteran in our field, and taking notes.

The air around me changed suddenly, and Preston slipped into the vacant chair next to me.

“How’s it going?” he whispered.

“Good.”

He put an arm on the back of my chair as he put one leg up over his knee.

It was such a guy move, and I had to smile.

His brow furrowed, but he smiled back with a small head tilt. “What?”

“Nothing.” I held up my notepad. “I got some ideas.”

While I was pretty much one hundred percent prepared for my own presentation tomorrow, I thought it wouldn’t hurt to see how the audience responded to others. My goal was to be informative, but I didn’t want to bore anyone.

Preston and I sat in silence until the current presentation and the Q and A after were finished.
