Paxton beamed with pride.
“We’d better get going.” I turned to Preston. “You’re okay with stopping by my sister’s? Otherwise, I can take Pax there and come right back. She’s only five minutes away.”
So far, I’d been doing drop-off and pickup at my sister’s house, even on the nights when Paxton stayed at Preston’s. I wasn’t going to keep it up forever, but right now, it gave me a chance to see my son every day and keep my sister out of my hair. She was bound to say something to me once she saw my ex again, which was why I hoped Preston would take me up on my offer.
“Nah. Let’s all go, and that way, we can head to the airport right away.”
“Together it is.” I was going to have to get Paxton inside before Natalie figured out we were there and looked out her window. “You heard Daddy. Let’s go get in his truck.”
THIRTEEN
DELANEY
We got everything outside, and I locked up my house. While Preston loaded my bags in the back, I buckled Paxton into his car seat.
When we arrived at my sister’s, I jumped out as soon as the vehicle was in park. Preston frowned at my rushing.
When I opened the back door to get Paxton, he said, “Delaney, we have plenty of time to check in and get through security.”
I gave him a smile. “I know, but I always worry.”
His brow crinkled. “Since when?”
Damn him for knowing me so well.
I shrugged. “I don’t know.” I grabbed Paxton’s stuff off the seat next to him. “Come on, buddy. Let’s go see your cousins.”
“Yay.”
“Say bye to Daddy.”
Paxton waved and grabbed my hand as he jumped out.
I shut the door, and Preston rolled down his window.
“What? All I get is a wave good-bye?” he protested as Paxton rushed to the front door.
I shrugged. “I guess you’re not any fun.”
His eyes heated, and he lowered his gaze. “Oh, I’m plenty of fun. Just ask your pussy.”
I made a noise between a squeak and a moan. “Not here.”
He snickered. “Pax can’t hear me.” He lifted his chin. “Go. Drop him off, and let’s get out of here. Give the brat a hug and a kiss for me.”
“Will do.”
Rushing after Paxton, I knocked softly in case my niece was taking a nap, and then I opened the door. I was used to walking in when Natalie knew I was coming, but I wasn’t expecting her in the entryway, and I jumped.
Natalie laughed.
“You scared me.”
“Eh. You’re fine.”
I ushered Paxton inside and tried to close the door behind me.
Natalie kept her hand on the knob and looked over my shoulder. “Delaney, I told you I could give you a ride to the airport so you don’t have to pay for parking. You know Dad would have driven you too.”
