Vivian’s face flushed red. “I—I—oh my God. I didn’t—”

I couldn’t hold back my laughter anymore. For as long as I’d known her, I had never seen Vivian so flustered before.

She whipped her head toward me. “So, you knew what it was?”

I grinned. “Of course I did.”

Looking at Rayne, I raised my glass. “Congratulations.” I could totally see my friend as a submissive and being very content in the role.

Rayne’s scarlet color rivaled Vivian’s. “Thank you. But it’s not what you think. He’s not my dom, and I’m not his sub. He just likes to be in control in the bedroom.” She looked down, a slow smile forming on her face. “And I like it when he is.”

Cade growled, “Also, it’s because you’re mine, Rayne.”

She immediately met his eyes. “Yeah, I am.” Her voice was almost breathless.

“Maybe I should put one of those on you, baby,” Dominick said to Vivian.

She stared at her boyfriend and swallowed. A few beats later, she muttered, “I don’t think so.”

Dominick chuckled. “I like that you actually thought about it for a moment.”

Scowling, Vivian narrowed her eyes. “No, I didn’t.”

She totally had, but Dominick just smiled and kissed her nose. He knew when not to argue with his hardheaded girlfriend.

Vivian turned to me. “What about you, Delaney? Is that something you would ever wear? Or did you ever wear one for your ex?”

I snorted at the thought. “No.”

I was neither a submissive nor a dominant. I was somewhere in the middle. I had loved it when my ex told me I was his, like Cade had just done with Rayne. But he could only boss me around for a limited time before my strong-willed personality had enough.

However, that hadn’t stopped me from letting my ex put his claim on me in another way.

But it was private, not in a place everyone could see, like Rayne.

And with that thought, it seemed like it was time for me to go.

I sipped my last bit of wine and set my glass on the table. “It was very nice meeting you, Cade, but I need to head out.”

Rayne’s face fell. “What? You just got here.”

“I know, and I’m sorry.”

“Was it something I said?” Vivian asked. “I shouldn’t have said anything about your ex.”

Shaking my head with a grin, I gathered my phone and purse. “No,” I said with a sigh. “Paxton’s nanny had to leave town. I’m not sure how long she’ll be gone. Her mother had to have spinal surgery, and Madison went to take care of her for a while.”

“Oh my God.” Sympathy was written all over Rayne’s face.

“It’s okay. Her mom is doing well. I’m just out of a nanny for a few weeks at least.”

“What are you doing with Paxton?” Vivian asked.

“My sister, Natalie, is watching him for the time being.”

My younger sister was a PRN nurse, which meant she only worked when the hospital needed her. She was only responsible for picking up two shifts a month, leaving her to be a stay-at-home mom the rest of the time. While I really appreciated her help, I also felt guilty for giving her extra work when she already had two kids of her own. One of which was a baby.

“Which means I need to pick him up.” I had come to dinner right after leaving the courthouse, which meant my son had been there all day.
