My mouth dropped open, and I leaned forward. “Never?”
I knew he didn’t get serious with anyone, but he did go on dates sometimes. Dates that never made it to a second one, but I’d figured he brought women here all the time to show off his place of employment.
Fallon shook her head. “Never.”
I was surprised until I remembered who Cade was. “Well, I suppose he gets enough women here that he doesn’t need to bring anyone in.”
She shook her head again. “Nope. Anytime someone asks him out, he tells them no. He doesn’t mix business with pleasure.” She smiled. “Actually, he always says he doesn’t shit where he eats.”
Good for him. I hoped my brother realized how professional his best friend could be.
“Makes sense.” I sipped on my water. “But seriously, I’ve known Cade since elementary school. My brother, Beau, is his best friend.”
“Ohhhh.” Fallon drew out the word. “Yeah, I know Beau.” She tilted her head. “I can see the resemblance.”
Beau and I both had blond hair and brown eyes, although his hair was slightly darker than mine. Beau, however, was average-sized, so people didn’t always realize we were siblings.
“So, you’ve met my brother?”
“Yeah. He’s come here a few times.”
“Well, I’m the female version of Beau. Cade and I are just friends.”
But did a friend stick their hand down their friend’s pajamas and give them an orgasm?
Not that it mattered because the whole point of our agreement was that wewerefriends now and we would remain friends in the future.
“I believe you. I once heard him say that a woman who spends the night has been there too long.”
“Yep, I’ve heard the same thing.”
“So, has he ever had a girlfriend?”
I snorted. “Not as long as I’ve known him. I think he’s allergic.”
The two of us were laughing when Cade came around the bar. “What’s so funny?”
“You,” I told him.
Fallon’s eyes got wide as she pursed her lips together like she was waiting to see what he would say next.
He lifted an eyebrow. “Do I want to know?”
“Nah.”
“In that case, come back to the kitchen with me.”
I slid off my stool. “Thanks for the water. It was nice meeting you,” I said to Fallon and followed Cade.
“You’re welcome,” she said with a smile.
“I’m hoping we won’t have to be here for too long,” he said as he pushed the doors to the kitchen open. “But I do need to take care of a few more things before we can go.”
“Whatever. If I want to leave, I’ll just steal your car and go home.”
He paused and waited for me to step up to him.
With his mouth next to my ear, he said, “And then I would have to spank your ass for taking something of mine home without my permission.”
