“Well, well, well!” she smirks.
“Okay, just keep your voice down,” I beg, knowing that there is a slim chance she will keep her voice down.
“You are totally fucking those men!”
“Amber, please!” I object, feeling my face redden.
“Didn’t I tell you not to do that?” she says, and I worry she will get even louder.
“I just…” I can’t finish. I end with a shrug.
“Huh. How about that,” she singsongs.
I watch her look at me, really give me a good going-over. She’s imagining it. Probably because she imagined herself doing it, like she told me before.
“Those guys over there, you think they are gossiping about… the thing you are actually doing?”
“Well, sort of…” I answer uncomfortably. “But still, they shouldn’t be—”
My voice cuts off, strangled by surprise. She reaches out and cups my cheeks in her hands, drawing me toward her over the top of the table. Automatically I obey, and find myself standing out of my chair, following her direction.
Her lips part in a mischievous smile as she pulls me toward her, then kisses me gently, deeply, with lingering sweetness that takes my breath away.
I’ve never kissed a woman before. She feels different. Soft and pliable. There is no stubble on her chin. Kissing her is all sweetness.
Her tongue lightly flickers inside my mouth, and I find myself urging toward it, stunned by shock, but also giving in…
Until she lets me go.
I float back down toward my chair, staring at her face as she slowly licks her lips.
“Are they looking at us?” she murmurs without moving her lips.
I shift in my chair, just enough that I can’t glance over at the guys.
Their mouths are all open, completely hanging open. Wide enough you could probably chuck a ping-pong ball in there.
“Oh yeah, they are looking at us,” I confirm breathlessly.
“Great, let’s go,” she sighs decisively. “Now they will have something new to speculate about.”
She reaches out and takes my hand, pulling me out of my chair. We leave our half-finished pints on the table and stumble back out the door, giggling triumphantly.
Amber. I knew she would fix everything!
Chapter 38
JOLENE
“You didwhat?!”
“Please keep your voice down!”
Ambrose glares at me from across the kitchen counter. Harrison looks me up and down, his eyes appreciative. Looking stunned.
“Just tell me this: Did you kiss her? Or did she kiss you?”
“And was there any tongue?” Harrison adds.
