Ambrose nods. “All over your face,” he agrees.

I can’t believe them. What are they trying to do?

“Boone is totally afraid of flying,” Harrison shrugs and tells Jolene.

“I am not afraid of flying,” I reply, which I still insist is technically true.

“Oh, I never would’ve thought that,” Jolene lies right to my face. “It really is a long flight, though. This could help you sleep.”

“I don’t need help sleeping.”

“That’s true… I know exactly how you like to sleep,” she says innocently, thrilling me right to the middle.

The joke goes right over the kids’ heads.

“So I will be fine,” I suggest, hinting that she could manage to help me out. I should have no problems at all.

She purses her lips and looks at each kid. She’s basically saying:Really? You expect me to keep an eye on all three of them and find a way to sneak off and blow you so you can get to sleep on an airplane, you big chicken?

Maybe not exactly that. Something close to that.

“Daddy!” Cole yells out suddenly, slapping his palms against the limo window. “Airplane!”

“Yep, that’s it, buddy,” I swallow, trying to sound enthusiastic.

There it is. Right there. A giant airplane. And here we are, rolling right across the tarmac.

I never saw anything like it. Jolene rolls forward, flexing that nice round ass in her tight yoga pants. At least we are doing something nice for her, I think. She’s definitely the kind of girl who deserves flights on private jets.

Wait, did I say that? Weird.

With everybody turned the other way, I quickly open my hand and pop the cannabis gummy bear in my mouth. Working it around with my tongue, I manage to free it from the cellophane and pull that part back out before anybody notices.

What? It can’t hurt, right?

Chapter 20

JOLENE

Ihad every intention of sneaking one of my boyfriends to the tiny bathroom in the back of the jet at some point during the last few hours.

Guess what happened.

Alexis had an earache. Cole bounced nervously from seat to seat. Harmony took bottle after bottle, probably to help her sinuses adjust from the compression. But that gave her stomachache, so then she spit up like she hadn’t for months.

I thought she grew out of that. I guess not.

There was turbulence. So much turbulence. It seemed like it was never going to end. It’s a good thing that I didn’t look at the satellite pictures before we took off, because knowing that we were going to be flying through and over that weather would have made Boone terrified.

Oh yeah, the kids were actually the best part of the flight. All eight-plus hours of it.

I guess Boone actually took the gummy bear before we got on the jet. I thought he might just go to sleep. Ambrose had told me that he was nervous about flying, so I called Emily, just for advice.

How did that go?

Well despite the fact that Emily is a total prude about sex and relationships and that sort of thing, she’s pretty open-minded about pot. I was in a bit of a time crunch since I hadn’t heard about his flight anxiety until the very day before we had to leave. Emily came through.

Bless her heart. She even delivered.
