“You are home, for now.”
“Mum. I have a life to get back to.”
“No.”
She stands and walks out of the room.
“Ugh!” I yell as she turns the key and locks me in the room.
An hour later the door is opened. I expect my mother but instead it’s a woman I’ve never met.
“I’m the new housekeeper, Marian. I’ve been asked to bring you down.” I follow behind her and stop when we cross into the dining room.
“There is some mistake here.” I look around the room where my parents are seated, and so is Patrick.
“Sit, darling, your fiancé was telling us all about his day.”
“I’m out of here.” I turn and rush through the hall to the door, but a large man steps from the shadows and stops me. I look at him and then the door. I need to get out of here. I don’t have my phone to call for help, but I’ll escape no matter what happens. I’m not marrying Patrick. I just want to be by myself. I make my way back up the stairs and lie on the bed until the tears come.

My heart has been in my throat since I made the decision that she would be safer at my da’s. I don’t want to send her away, but until I get more security and find out more about these letters, she’ll be safer there.
“Boss, we have a problem.” Shane steps through the door with Seamus and Brody following him.
“What? I don’t have time. I need to go next door and talk to Fiona.” I slam the drawer closed I was looking in. “I’ve already called Da and told him I’ll be bringing her out there tonight.”
“Well, there’s been a change of plans.” Brody steps around the desk and I turn my head to look at him as Seamus moves to my other side. I look between them and realize I’m trapped. My stomach drops.
“What happened to her?” I go for Brody, thinking he’s the weaker link between the two, but he pushes me back.
“She’s with her parents.” Shane’s words stop me.
“How? She’s at my house.”
“No, she’s not. She left here about two hours ago. I didn’t know it until one of the guards stopped me to say he directed her here earlier.”
“What?” I sink into my desk chair. She was here earlier?
“I had Lex do a search and he found she left the compound.”
I bolt out of my chair. She’s out there and someone is trying to hurt her. I go for Seamus this time.
“How did she get off the compound? Did you help her?” I blame him. I know he’d help her because they are friends. But I’d hope he wouldn’t put her in more danger.
“No. I’d never do that, but if she overheard you say you were sending her away…”
The image of her lying under me as I fucked into her, telling her she was mine, flashes before my eyes. Her saying I made her feel safe. Her not caring about the danger. I know she craves someone to care for her, and if she thought I pushed her away again…
“No,” I bellow before I start fighting, trying to get away from them. To get to her. I need to fix this.
“One of my prospects took her to town.” Brody’s words break through the red.
“I’ll kill him.”
“Don’t do that, but maybe show him some pain for letting your girl ride behind him.” He chuckles. “I confronted him. He said she told him her name was Moira. He thought she was with me. He dropped her at a grocery in town.”
