“That is– Well–” he said, but Britt didn’t seem scandalized, or even surprised. No, she seemed… The mood at the table shifted abruptly.
“I was promised dessert,” she said, all the lightness now gone from her voice. “But I think I can go without, just this once.”
“Britt,” I said, leaning close to whisper in her ear. “Baby. I promise you.” I heard her soft intake of breath as my lower lip skimmed over the lobe of her ear. “You won’t go without. Not with me.”
CHAPTERTWENTY-THREE
Britt
This wasthe same elevator I’d taken up a thousand times, to Conall’s apartment.
But this time, it wasn’t Conall who I was spending the night with, but Beau.
I couldn’t help the nerves that fluttered through my stomach as the elevator jolted upwards.
Then Beau’s hand wrapped around my waist, pulling me into him. I looked up, startled, and saw him gazing back at me, heat heavy in his pretty eyes.
He smiled, and tilted my chin up with one finger, just as he had on the dance floor, and just as I had done then, I let my eyes fall shut, and gave myself over to the feeling of his soft lips on mine.
He broke the kiss, smiling at me as my eyes fluttered open, and then his gaze flicked over my shoulder to where… My stomach twisted. To where Conall was.God, Beau made me forget myself.
“Fuck, Beau, we’re not even in the apartment yet,” Adrian groaned, “keep it in your pants a second, for fuck’s sake.”
The smile that spread over Beau’s face had my heart thumping in my chest, and I swallowed, glancing to Conall again.
The alpha was staring at me, at my mouth. He said, gently, “If you don’t want to do anything, we can just… talk. Watch a movie. But if youdowant to–” he brought one hand up to rub the back of his neck, his cheeks pink, “with Beau, then…”
“Britt,” Beau whispered into my hair, and I turned from Conall to the omega. “Let me tell you something. You can’t feel what I’m feeling,” he said, and my brow furrowed in confusion before he continued. “I think that those two idiots have perhaps forgotten that not everyone’s an alpha, not everyone can sense their feelings like I can. So I’ll spell it out for you: Conall is so fucking turned on right now,” he smirked. “He’s feeling territorial, yeah. But mostly, he’s… hmm, how should I put this. Satisfied? Proud? You know, I’m his, in our own way,” he said, and my stomach turned over. It was unsettlingly sexy, how hot I found those words from Beau’s mouth.His.Conall’s. “And… I shouldn’t tell you this, but you’re his, too. At least–” he said, as my breath caught in my chest, “that’s what his scent is telling me. Loud and clear.” He smiled. “So if you’re worried about what Conall will think of you, of us, together…” he purred, “don’t be. Just trust me. Trust us. It’s okay.”
The elevator dinged. The digital panel readP. Conall’s gaze was heavy, and I could see Adrian from the corner of my eye, smirking from the corner by the buttons, but Beau’s arms around my waist felt so, so… right.
The door opened.
“Do you want to come in with me?” he whispered, nuzzling his nose against my neck.
I nodded, mouth suddenly dry.
“Words, please, Britt,” he said. “I want to hear you.”
“Yes,” I just about managed, and Conall’s eyes flashed.
“In that case, baby,” Beau said, taking my hand, “the bedroom’s this way.”
With a nod from Conall, I followed Beau into their home, through an expansive living room, dark save the light from floor-to-ceiling windows, the nighttime city black and gold against a deep navy sky.
“Do you have a nest?” I asked, suddenly curious, as we turned down a wide hallway.
“See for yourself,” he said, and opened the door to a bedroom–his bedroom.Roommates, I thought, and smiled to myself. Roommates who, occasionally, took a girl out to dinner together, even if they didn’t take her home as a trio. I stepped into the room. It was just a normal bedroom, if a very nice, professionally decorated one, but on second glance, I was positive that the bed was larger than a king. It had to be custom.
“I hope this isn’t too weird for you,” Beau said, and I shook my head.
“No, it’s nice. I love the view.”
He smiled. “Thanks, but I meantus. You, and Conall, and me. Adrian, too. I know it’s not what you’re used to, as a beta.”
Thatwas an understatement.
But.
