“Conall,” Beau said, going half-limp in his arms. “Let’s get out of here, please.”

“Of course, Beau, Adrian’s getting the car, we’re almost there–”

I stood watching as they pushed through the crowd, suddenly exhausted. What time was it? My limbs felt like lead and my head like static, after the sharp clarity of the encounter with the alphas.

The alphas.

Ronan, maybe? Jack? I couldn’t remember. I needed to call the club, set up an alert for them before they got there and started asking for Britney.Shit, I–

“Britt,” Beau said, turning, his eyes landing on mine. “Are you coming?” His eyes had lost all of the melting sensuousness of before, they were hard and steely. I looked from him to Conall, still with his arm around the omega’s shoulder protectively. Possessively. My stomach churned.

“She’s coming,” he said, and I had no choice.

I followed them.

CHAPTERTEN

Adrian

I pulledup in front of the bar just as the others made their way out: Beau, already perking up some after his run-in, Conall, stone-faced and serious as always, and Britt, who looked…

Well, she looked fucking gorgeous–

“What thefuckwas that?!” she yelled, as soon as the door of the SUV slammed shut behind her. “Where the hell were you?!”

–And also, furious.

Her face was flushed and pink, her jaw set, her eyes like choppy water.I’ll go down with this ship, and gladly, if it means I can drown in those grey eyes. She glared at me.

“Well,” I said, “it looked like you had it under control,” I said, and smiled.

“It looked like I had it under control?” I flinched as her voice went up an octave.

“Don’t tease her, Adrian,” said Beau, from the back. Britt was in the front passenger seat this time, Conall and Beau sitting together in the back. They weren’t, like, cuddling or anything, but Conall had his Beau’s hand clasped in his, in his lap. Grounding. “She was scared.”

“Of course I was scared!” Britt nearly yelled. “Those alphas weretouchingyou and these two were nowhere in sight! I had to–”

“Yeah,” I said, curious. “How did you get them to scamper off like that?”

“I told them I would get them in at Ardor,” she said, frowning, and then, “I need to call–” She dug in her practical purse, boring black and dated.

I’d have to order her a new one as a thank you gift. She didn’t seem the type to buy a designer handbag for herself, but if I bought it for her, she’d never know how expensive it was, would she?

“Where the fuck is my phone,” she mumbled, and then, her hand stilled and she looked up at the three of us.

Beau’s color was back, an apologetic smile flitting about his face.

“What’s going on,” she said, and the fury drained from her, replaced by confusion.

“It’s okay,” Beau said. “Hey, Britt. It’s okay.”

“Yeah, no thanks to…” She looked from Beau, to me, to Conall. “Oh.”

“Yes,” Beau said. “Oh.”

“You’re bonded,” she said, and Beau nodded. “You can… communicate, or whatever.” He nodded again, and she shut her eyes, letting out a deep breath. “You were safe the whole time, and I just rushed in like a fool and–”

“No, baby, you werefantastic,” the omega said. “It was perfect. You handled it perfectly, given your understanding of the situation.”
