ou need a safe word,” I interject.

Kiya looks away from where she’s going back and forth with Nadia over their negotiations.

“A safe word?” Kiya asks, looking back at Nadia, but Nadia just shrugs and nods back to me because I’m the one that usually explains this part.

“A word to let me know if you want me to stop. It needs to be a word you don’t normally use in every day conversation. Or at least, one that you wouldn’t typically use during sex.”

“Why?”

“So I can know without question that you want me to stop.”

“Why can’t I just tell you to stop?”

“Because sometimes, when we do the things Nadia and I do,” I say, playing with a ginger lock of Kiya’s hair, “the things thatIhave planned to do to you, stop sometimes doesn’t actually mean stop. And no doesn’t always mean no. So you need a word to tell me that unquestionably means those two things.”

“What’s you all’s safe words?”

“Elope.”

“Ideal.”

“Something tells me there’s a story behind choosing those words,” Kiya says, observant as she always is.

“There is,” I reply simply.

Kiya looks at us expectantly.

“We’re not telling you,” I add.

“Of course,” she mutters. She pauses for a moment to consider before saying, “Lip gloss.”

“Lip gloss?” I ask, raising an eyebrow.

“That’s okay, right? It’s technically two words but… yeah.”

“It’s fine,” I say. Then I ask futilely because I already know how Kiya is going to respond, “What’s the story behind that word?”

She smirks, and just like I knew she would, she says, “I’m not telling you.”

“Of course, you’re not,” I reply.

She looks down at the screen on the tablet with all the kinks and things Nadia wants to do with her if she agrees. Then she looks up at me.

“Do you have a list like this?”

“No.”

“Why not?”

“Because a safe word is the only thing you need.”

“Why?”

“Because the things I want to do to you are no fun for me if you know them in advance.”

“In other words, Alik likes to push boundaries,” Nadia says.

“More than push them. I want to completely shatter your boundaries and force you to rebuild them stronger than before so I can shatter them again. If it becomes too much, use your safe word, Kitten.” I say, this time running a hand on Kiya’s bare arm.
