“I—”

“Don’t think about it. Just do what you feel.”

She nods and we continue our dance. It takes a few minutes, but then she gives an experimental squeeze of my ass with both her hands. I sigh in contentment, and when I don’t protest, she ghosts her hand up my back, down my shoulder. Reaches between us to graze her hand over my breasts. I close my eyes and get lost in the feeling. Run my hands down her waist to her thigh, meeting naked skin from where her dress has ridden up. Let myself imagine that we’re both doing this naked. Because it feels so fucking good with our clothes between us, so I know it would be heaven without them. Better, even though it should be impossible.

I don’t want to scare her. I don’t want to be too much for her. But I can’t resist anyway. I need to,at least, kiss her. I need to do much more to her. But for now, at least that.

I open my eyes and look down at her.

“Kiya. I’m—”

“Back off,” she suddenly says firmly. I immediately know it’s not to me, though. Because she’s glaring over my shoulder.

I turn to see a man who’s definitely sober with a smile on his face and a hand reaching out towards me.

“No need to be so hostile,” he assures us both. “Just thought you ladies could use some male companionship.”

“I get enough of that. Thank you,” I say.

“Oh, come on.” He reaches his hand out again.

“Don’t. Touch her.”

Kiya’s even, bland tone doesn’t scare me. I’ve seen too much shit to be afraid of a person’s tone. But it does surprise me. The viciousness. The warning in it.

“Oh. Don’t be jealous, sweetheart. I have enough to go around for you too.”

And then he cups her face with his hand.

Three things happen seemingly at once. Too fast to figure out what happens first. I pull a knife from a hidden pocket and stab it into the man’s shoulder. Kiya takes out a fucking stun gun of all things and stuns the man right in the balls. Alik appears out of nowhere and knocks the man in the head with the butt of his gun. Between all three of those things, our assaulter crumbles to the ground.

He's not going anywhere for a while, not with the way he’s spasming from the stun jolt Kiya sent through him. But Alik still puts his foot on the man’s chest to keep him down.

“You two okay?”

“We’re fine, my love.”

He nods and then looks at Kiya. Specifically the stun gun in her hand. “Who gave you that?”

“Eileen bought it for me and showed me how to use it.”

He nods approvingly before turning back to the man who has stopping spasming and gained some awareness.

“What the fucking—”

“You’re lucky I don’t feel like burying a body. So I’m going to be lenient and let you off with a warning.”

“Right. Got it. Sorry.”

Alik aims his gun to the hand that the guy used to touch Kiya.

“Wait. You said—”

“That I’d let you off with a warning. This is the warning. Nadezhda, keep him from moving his arm, will you? I can’t get a good aim.”

I dig the heel of my pumps into the man’s wrist to keep him from moving his hand, ignoring his screams even as no one else does.

Alik puts a bullet right in the middle of his hand. I remove my heel.
