“Thanks, maybe I’ll smoke it later,” I say and return to my bottle.
“The video goes on a bit, with you drinking almost half the whiskey and then going inside. The guy leaves after a few minutes as you just admire the landscape and ignore him altogether,” she fills me in. “So, at least we can counter it all by showing you didn’t actually do any drugs, and that the joint may not even have been a ‘joint’ in the first place. The ‘being an example for your sister’… that… that is pretty sweet, caveman,” she beams and makes me so happy seeing her joy.
“WOW!” I exclaim. “That is amazing! Shit—that was very close!” I get off the couch and start pacing the room, hands on my hips, taking deep breaths, awestruck that we have evidence now to counter the blackmail and get me Tae.
“Indeed it was,” she agrees and gets up after me, stopping me and taking my hand. “Good thing you are a really great guy—even halfway through a bottle.”
“I am, huh? A great guy?” I pull her close to me again, rejoicing in the feel of her body, wishing my house wasn’t full of various sisters so I can get DJ’s clothes off right here.
“Someone is fishing for compliments,” she comments, giggling.
“Mmm, more like take what I’m given.” I nibble at her neck, tasting her sweet skin.
“By the way, do you know who that guy is?” DJ switches subjects and I nod. As yes, I recognize who he is, and only cements the betrayal I felt yesterday.
“I do, and I have an idea of exactly how to use all that. But that’s for later. It’s half-past six in the morning, and right now, I want to hold my woman, have a shower with her, have something to eat—yes, maybe her. Then we can go kick some ass.”
I sway her in my embrace for a bit, and we start dancing slowly with no music in my living room, reveling in the quiet and in us. The warmth of her perfect curves glued on me, her hair caressing my tattoos, an excellent start of the day if I ever had one.
“Jon, I want to say something.”
“Hmm,” I mumble, just enjoying moving with her, dumbfounded how it was all so close to the edge yesterday and now I have my lady in my arms, and confidence we can fix it all together. And that I too have something to tell her.
“Jon…” she starts again and this time she puts her palms on my face, the feel of her soft skin against my beard making me smile, thinking of other soft areas my beard will touch.
“Yes?”
“I want to say… I know it seems insane, and that we have only known each other for like a month—and we have stupid fights. Your former stepmother and my ex are crazy. And it’s all up in the air with your job and I probably shouldn’t say anything now, and if it’s all too much, you need to tell me. And… but... I want to say it now, Jon… I… I.” She is absolutely adorable as she is unraveling in front of me, blushing like I’ve never seen her, and I can only stop her with what I have been wanting to express myself.
“Shh, stop rambling, Avril, it’s my turn. Look at me.” She listens for a change. “I love you, Dahlia Jara.”
“What? I was supposed to tell you I love you!” She seems panicked by my interruption, but then her eyes grow bigger realizing what I just confessed. “Oh!”
“Come here, DJ.” My lips capture hers hungrily and I am overwhelmed by the sensation of kissing the woman I love and who loves me back, by the staggering feelings revealed between us.
She moans against me, and I want to lift her and have her against the wall. Only our guests upstairs prevent me from doing just that. So, I settle on grabbing her ass and continue to dive into her mouth, owning all of her, as she owns all of me, digging her hands him my hair, pulling her to me.
“Eww get a room, you two!” I hear Laura’s voice as she is coming down the stairs, breaking us up. “Or, seeing as I had your room, at least wait until I leave. I don’t need nightmares. Hey sis, I see you got your man back—took good care of him in your absence, but the lad can’t hold his liquor.TíoAntonio will have a field day at Christmas! Tell me there’s coffee,” she has a little monologue with herself and goes to the kitchen looking for her brew. “Oh, and Jon, your sister relayed not to wake her before 8 or she will kill you.”
“I doubt this is what you imagined if you ever thought of having three ladies in the house,” DJ says, still in my arms, shaking her head at her sibling’s ‘I don’t give a shit’ attitude.
“I don’t think I ever imagined all this, but I wouldn’t change this for anything,” I declare as I give her another squeeze, then get her hand and take us to get coffees as well, as a plan on tackling our enemies formulates in my head.
“We need to go talk to my former EA first,” I start telling DJ my intentions as I watch Laura putting more milk in her coffee than actual coffee, then taking it outside on the terrace.
“Huh? What does Anya have anything to do with this now?” my girlfriend asks, confused.
“We asked her to give us what she had on Miranda. But I don’t believe Miranda was actually her contact.”
“Who is it then? Richard?”
“I will tell you on the drive there. But first, finish your drink, and then I am dragging you in the shower. I need my breakfast,” I grin at her, knowing exactly what I will be feasting on.

ThedrivetoAnya’sfollowed a chaotic breakfast with Jon slightly lost between three women chattering. He mustered through it as he kept his hand on my lower back or held me at his side, grounding himself. Well, after his private first breakfast in the shower.
My sister volunteered to take Tabitha to school, so we went straight to his ex-assistant’s flat, and en route he told me all that happened with Michaela. How she threw him under the bus and lied to the board about the forms. He also thinks she is working with Miranda and Richard and is counting that this trip to Anya’s will give us more evidence.
